The Beer Scout Knife

Those look fantastic, very excited to get mine in. I thought today would be the day for me but still nothing. Tracking said last Monday but usps said it would be Thursday. Well no knife so I opened tracking case so maybe maybe tomorrow is the day.

I got this new Gun Scout yesterday :)

The "Gun" Scouts are stupendous!

Nice photos, fellas.

Seeing everyone with theirs is making the wait excruciating. I think the USPS delivery driver fell asleep in Kent, WA. Hopefully he wakes up soon. :o :(

They say, "no guts, no glory"...so I bit the bullet, took one for the team, and tried to darken the wood on my new Gunscout. I did it just out of curiosity because this knife is a beauty right out of the tube. As you'll see by the pictures, the Brazilian Bloodwood didn't take the stain and there's very little to report.

When I got the knife, it had a rosy hue to it...the knife now is just a tad darker and the rosiness is less pronounced, but not by much.

I carefully sanded the scales with 800, 1000, and then 2000 grit sandpaper. I then put 4 coats of dark walnut Minwax on it ( 5, 5, 15, & 15 minutes).

This is just my opinion but, Barry's Scout is hands down the most elegant of all these Scouts produced. There's some mighty fine renditions on here, but this one takes the cake!

Now I have to go and buy some more leather cordage to make a decent lanyard because I'm not liking this waxed cotton.

I think it looks really good Armando. Seems like the Bloodwood is leaning toward a more subtle color.

If you do any more to it, try sanding with a coarser grit. The finer the grit, the less stain will be absorbed.

Mine is set for delivery tomorrow and I am planning a heavy dose of Primbleizing on it. ;):D

Nice Bloodwoods by Perry and Ron too. :)

Boy these photos really make me regret not picking one up. This knife is a beauty for sure. I can't buy them all. I am happy with mine.

Finally the Gunscout makes an appearance. Photos up tomorrow in the dawn light :) Really pleased with the diagonal grain that showed up on mine.

Thanks Primble and TX_planes...I actually went down to 400 after the pictures were shot and gave it another coating. It's definitely darker, but that red is going nowhere.

Ron, a true beauty:thumbup:

By the way, the Lime Cutter and Soda Scout will earn their keep this weekend...Nanc and I have some celebrating to do;):thumbup:

Now your messing with me Al, darned smoke and mirrors!
:D

Dang AL, you gottem all!

I couldn't help myself!

The Gun Scout arrives! Beautiful, Barry,,, and a nice rosy color too. :thumb up:
Perfect blade centering too! Thanks to you Barry for a stunning SFO!

+1 and that's a great shot, Perry!

As you can see the waves changes from shot to shot, impossible to actually show the waves moving in a still pic, but you get the idea.

Yep. You captured it about as well as can be expected in stills. Great effort! It's some amazing wood!

Great shots, Ron and Armando!

Question for you guys that own the Blood Red Sawcut Soda Scout - is the top edge of the blade, right above the long pull, pretty sharp? Compared to my other Beer Scouts, mine is pretty sharp. I can even feel a slight bur on the edge.

Yep, mine came in pretty sharp but I did touch it up a bit for a razor edge. Also mine is flush at all points! Wooohooo!

Now that you mention it, Luc...I too feel a burr on the spine of the sheepsfoot, on the end with the Tidioute Cutlery stamp.

Well...now I know that if I find myself in a drunken stupor because of the Gunscout, and in an emergency with no way out, I'll at least be able to start a fire with a ferro rod and the back of my blade :D

Yes mine was sharp as well, I just used some micro mesh sanding pads to round it ever so slightly.

yup that's exactly where the bur is on mine.

Glad I'm not the only one.

I'll probably end up doing the same thing with mine.
