HUZZAH!
I don't want to quell your enthusiasm, but I have a knife sitting in Frankfurt (which is only 40 miles from Heidelberg) since Sunday without the slightest progress ... :grumpy:

I know the feeling (especially on the cusp of the week-end :D ) and understand your frustration.

However, I'm pretty certain you will find the wait worthwhile, it's a fine pattern - all handles.:thumbup: What an array: 2 acrylics, smooth bone, sawn-bone, 3 woods, 2 micartas. The only thing 'missing' is Stag, now that....:D

Thanks, Will

My micarta Soda Scout arrived last week. It was very difficult to capture the true color of the micarta, but this is pretty close in this morning’s sunlight:

Don't know, anyway here's my "Chatoyance shots"

As you can see the waves changes from shot to shot, impossible to actually show the waves moving in a still pic, but you get the idea.

Forgive the ignorance.

Why did mine come with a penny taped inside the tube?

it's an old tradition - many will tape a penny to every box as a token of good luck to the new owner of the knife, or for whoever is going to receive it as a gift.

For good luck! Honestly, that is why it was added.

Do we have any confirmation that the micarta is actually paper, or just the testing that has been done to actually show the linen fibers?

I don't want to cast any shadows or doubt, but I don't think it should be portrayed as linen if it ideed is not.

So, did GEC add the penny or the dealer I bought the knife from?

I just watched the movie "The Edge" with Alex Baldwin and Anthony Hopkins and I remember a scene where they were talking about giving a penny when a knife was given as a gift.

"There is a folklore superstition regarding the giving of a knife as a gift. If the knife is given to a friend, money must be exchanged as well. It is considered very bad luck to give someone a knife without exchanging money or the friendship will be cut by the knife. Because of this superstition, it is common that the gift of a knife will be given along with a penny, nickel or dime in the box with the knife so that the recipient can give back the coin, thereby saving the friendship from being severed by the giving of the sharp blade. The exact background of this superstition is unclear yet; even today most people will include a coin with the gift of a knife and request the coin be given back. The apparent view is that it is far better to be safe than sorry."

My Gunscout arrived toady!!!!!
Absolutely beautiful knife, the chatoyance of Satine (bloodwood) is gemlike.
Everything about this knife is perfect, Walk and talk, fit and finish, blade centering.
The blade pull is about 5 & 6 which is better than my cocobolo BSK, which is about a 5 & 9.
I am headed outside to take some pics in the sunlight.
Thank you Barry, for a wonderful sfo knife!!

As far as darkening the wood, I'm sure that some light sanding followed by Minwax stain, and Caranuba wax afterwards would probably darken it, but the wood looks just fine as is from what I see in the pictures.

They say, "no guts, no glory"...so I bit the bullet, took one for the team, and tried to darken the wood on my new Gunscout. I did it just out of curiosity because this knife is a beauty right out of the tube. As you'll see by the pictures, the Brazilian Bloodwood didn't take the stain and there's very little to report.

When I got the knife, it had a rosy hue to it...the knife now is just a tad darker and the rosiness is less pronounced, but not by much.

I carefully sanded the scales with 800, 1000, and then 2000 grit sandpaper. I then put 4 coats of dark walnut Minwax on it ( 5, 5, 15, & 15 minutes).

This is just my opinion but, Barry's Scout is hands down the most elegant of all these Scouts produced. There's some mighty fine renditions on here, but this one takes the cake!

Now I have to go and buy some more leather cordage to make a decent lanyard because I'm not liking this waxed cotton.

USPS said delivery today...NOT.
Hope for gunscout in box tomorrow. If not, USPS got some splainin'.
In the meantime, great photos of a quality knife.

Initially I didn't read the text, just looked at the picture and thought to myself: "wow, that's the nicest Bloodwood I've seen so far"

after reading it all make sense now. That came out awesome - makes me want to get one now. Just not a huge fan of the stock finish.

Great work Armando

Thanks Luc...it's definitely more brownish than the others I've seen. Just seems like it needs more time to make a really drastic change.

Got a "Gunscout" today and it's even better than anything I could have imagined (even with all the reports).
The bloodwood is the prettiest wood I've seen as a knife cover.
A side note; Barry is the King of Customer Service!
