The Beer Scout Knife

As I've written before, when this knife first came out I really wasn't moved at all:  got enough 15s as it is, don't need any other variations, my SAK Farmer has the bottle opener I use in the kitchen, the GEC Forum Knife from 11 has one - even though it doesn't work very well at all...- got a Red Bone Radio Jack etc.

Until I copped an eyeful of these pictures shown here, my head got turned:D

Vexed question of which one ? There was not a slab I didn't like but I can afford only one and it is going to be a front-line user. So I opted for Smooth Ivory Bone for the ageing aspect and contrast with patina, I like light & dark. Very glad I did, no question.

Mine arrived on Monday and I was off on a trip, it made a welcome companion. Plenty of pores in this bone and I approve of that! F&F is peerless, no issues at all. Pull on both is quite stout as I like, snap is loud! Moreover, such a useful knife too. Sheepfoot looks great but is a very good food slicer so it has seen citrus and other fruit duties, it slices salami very thin too. The there's the screwdriver which I've already had to use and the bottle-opener  I never liked bails but this seems appropriate on this knife, it doesn't get in the way when cutting or shutting, plus I can hang it up in the kitchen.

OK as it's such a brilliant knife I opted for this beer which is very tasty indeed - even though I'm on a diet that excludes all bread and (most) beer for a week or two. Really enjoying mine, big surprise, hope you all enjoy your knives and if you haven't got one yet I suggest you try and put it right.

Regards, Will

Hey Will...Glad you joined the insanity for this knife. I also have the bone and love it.

Mike

Looking good Will. I passed on the smooth bone models but I love the look of them!! I certainly don't NEED another but who knows!

My Beer Scout is still getting drunk in Kent, Washington. :D

To say that the USPS deserves coal from me on Christmas this year is an understatement.

As far as darkening the wood, I'm sure that some light sanding followed by Minwax stain, and Caranuba wax afterwards would probably darken it, but the wood looks just fine as is from what I see in the pictures.

I wouldn't dream of messing with the color intentionally, I love it! I was just wondering what to expect might happen over time.

So's mine (the last of the cocobolos from there). I guess they will be "shipping buddies" all the way to San Diego.

I gave my ebony BS to my dad, 'cause he liked it best and his birthday is coming up, but I still have the micarta and Sunbrite to keep the beers opening while I wait for that cocobolo.

likewise Armando, I hope it'll still be able to walk and talk coherently by the time it gets here after that bender :D :D

Has anyone attempted to dye their blood wood a darker hue yet? Would love to see some more photos of that lustre

Just saw that it arrived in San Diego about an hour ago...maybe tomorrow, but since it's the USPS...I'll leave the beer in the fridge until I know for sure that it's here.
