The Bird & Trout Thread

Heres one, though it may be more on the caper side of things.

This thread really has me missing my Western 28 B&T.
For now, I make do with a Knives of Alaska Cub Bear.

I've cleaned more birds (ducks, pheasant, quail) with a Schrade Sharpfinger than all other knives combined.

Ha - I was wondering when the Sharpfinger would make an appearance. While it isn't technically billed as a "bird and trout" knife, it has to be one of the finest, most versatile game and fish knives ever devised. It would certainly be in the Top 5 of 'bird and trout' knives I would choose.

Your pic reminds me of my Uncle Floyd. Big family reunion picnic and one cuz showed up with a nice batch of fresh caught 12-13 inch rainbows. Uncle Floyd was from California where he did a lot of deep sea fishing. Every one was oohing and ahing and snapping pictures of the trout all laid out and Uncle Floyd walked up and said, "Nice bait! When we goin' fishin'?"

This fine example arrived today. I feel pretty confident in saying that (according to my totally subjective opinion...:D), this is the perfect B&T for me. From the size, to the blade geometry, to the way the handle swells toward the rear and is nice and thin up front, it's all there. And that fiddleback is sure easy on the eyes...

Length overall: 6-3/4"
Cutting edge: 2-3/4"
Steel: D2
Fiddleback maple scales with black liners

And it came with a very nice sheath as well:

While I've used it on neither birds nor trout, the Bark River Lil' Bird and Trout is one of my favourite knives. Great as an every day carry while in a wheelchair or crutches, the 1/16" thin blade and leaf profile help it cut like a much bigger knife while maintaining dexterity.

I always thought this well worn old timer would work well for the purpose, but it is very hard for me to open as I have no nails and it is very hard to access the nail nick.

This is one of my first purchases, worked very well before I became a knife snob!

Does a caponizing knife qualify as a bird knife? ;)

Sorry so late to the party. I dragged a few out that I thought might fill the bill...

While a bit modern for appearance, I have thought that the TOPS street scalpel would fit this traditional role and keep toying with purchasing one for that purpose.
