The BK15 30 day EDC challenge

I don't really have anything to say today, except if Chuck Norris needed a knife, he'd buy a BK15...

Yep!

I've been using mine on the farm a lot, but had to take it off when going to work a horse at a new place today--never know how folks will react to a non-folding knife, so I used my SAK. As soon as I got home I put the 15 back on.

Here's how I carried the 15 on my bicycle a couple days ago.

Zip ties through the molle straps around the cross bar or drop bat for a more secure hold.

Great so far man! Following intently.

I don't normally build lean-to's with my EDC. :D

If you can't build a lean-to with it, it's not much of an EDC. Lean-to-ery and lunch making are two things that I feel are absolutely required of an everyday knife. Just my opinion, of course.

Speaking of turtles, my wife informed me yesterday that she stopped on the road to gently move a confused turtle from the raillroad tracks crossing the road, to the side of the road, because she didn't want anyone to squish it. On the other hand, she also purposely squashed a possum on the road with her car a couple days ago. I'm totally OK with both those decisions.

Thanks! I don't ride too far or too hard, but if I ever go on a farther ride I'll try that.

Fine. :grumpy: I'll build a lean to with it... one of these years.. :D

Your wife sounds cool. :D

Ya mean, like, past the end of the driveway?

Fine. :grumpy:
"Hey, I'm going camping, gonna build a fire, cut some feathersticks, skin some trees, cut sticks for 'dogs and marshmallows, and ...
wait ...What? ... RAIN!
eeeeeeewww gonna run inside before I get wet!
"

[years later]

"Daddy, can you teach me how to build a lean-to in case it rains when I'm out camping?"
Sorry, no. I just run inside.
"

It was once said, not by me - though I thoroughly subscribe to it, that if a knife can't make a PB&J sandwich - it ain't worth a f----[dge].

Great thread and moderately jealous of that nice cabin

Thanks! I keep trying to convince dad to have a Beckerhead gathering at the cabin. :D

Ya mean, like, past the end of the driveway?

No, I mean, like, farther than 3 miles.

Well, son, we've got a cabin right there, but just in case you're not camping here, sure. Your pop's pop taught me to make one when I was about yer age.

Get some, naysayers.

:D

The 15 saw a good bit of use today, so..

USE FROM THE DAY:

Cut open some feed sacks, cut up an old shirt to make a torch with (to burn out those pesky caterpillars that build nests in fruit trees), bushwhacked an almost dead groundhog (dogs took care of most of it, the 15's spine just made sure the job was done), and just a couple other small cutting tasks not worth going in to.

CONCLUSION:

Still love the 15. Takes a great edge, easy to sharpen. Handles are even better than full size Becker handles (IMO). Just wish the choil was bigger. I have fairly fat fingers and they touch the blade a little bit when I'm using the choil.

I can hear Ethan now - "uh hu, told ya." ;)

If you have access to a spindle sander or a spindle attachment for a drill, you can easily widen it. The choil's arc is about the same as a quarter, about 15/16" diameter. So a 1" dia spindle drum should be about right. 220 grit will make a smooth 'factory' finish.

i like this thread. it's good to see kids outdoors. i understand you're a farm kid, so it might not be a big deal to you. my kids are town kids. glued to their phones and wifi's and such.

i'd make my colleagues nervous carrying my 15 on my belt, so i keep it in my lunch bag. just in case.

I was sitting here wondering about a (sub)urban 30 day challenge. Probably wouldn't get as many pics. Mostly "Here I am using my BK to open another Amazon box, after making another sandwich."

Still might be fun though.

Great thread!

I have to admit, I didn't do that with the 15. It was built prolly 4 years ago. It was pretty fun to do, though.

What, did Ethan say the choil needed to be bigger or?

Don't have access to anything like that, but for no more than I use it, the choil is good like it is. Just not quite big enough if I'm going to use it for a long time.

Thanks! I love being outside, but I love my video games too. :D

have a great and safe Memorial weekend everybody!!

You (and everyone else :D) too!

Great thread!

Would still be interesting. Thanks!

And keep the thread rollin' Noswad. Pretty entertaining for sure.

Thanks!

Glad to see you are still loving this blade.
