The BK16 They Told You Did't Exist!!

Negative ghostrider. No line yet on new coated saber ground ones. Yet...

A photo from that certain store shows the same thing:

I'd be down for one of those as well. :D The one i have is: BK16, sabre ground, rolled/stamped logo, old coating---but no "First Production Run" laser etch or E. B.signature. Sorry, nothing else here, move along now. :D

I have one of the first production 17's and love it. I do think I would prefer the new coating though. In the case of the 16, I like that sweet saber grind!

Watching this. I was not going to buy a 16 due to the flat grind. But now!!!! It just might be.

Is this an old thread or something ? I have had mine for 19 days now... I thought it has been out what gives ?

This is something different. Normal laser-etched 16s are a full flat grind. This one is a saber grind which we were told weren't made.

Maybe I am missing something here. Is it just the rarity of the knife that so many seem to be after? I honestly cant think of a reason on a knife of this size to want a saber over a FFG. Someone please help me click the light bulb.

You have to feel it to understand.
There is nothing wrong with the FFG 16 at all, but for some of us, the Saber is just "IT"
I have both and can say that for me, the saber feels much more like what I want.

Yes. I much prefer the saber for outdoors type stuff. Better to baton on as well in my opinion.
The full flat is better in the kitchen tho! Lol

They are both awesome knife and I have a couple of each. Except this awesome laser etch logo saber with the new coating. Ah.

I see said the blind man... Yes, I just looked at mine and it is ffg (i didnt notice the gring profile in the pics) but yes now I want both !

Some people, including me, like a sabre grind, as there is just simply more steel there & i feel that it is stronger. Simple as that, at least for me anyways.

I'm in the same boat there. I like ffg on some blades, but I'd prefer the saber in this case.

I suspect KaBar will be producing both versions. Why the hell not, the'll sell.Make mine the flat.

If you were to go to the big auction site and type in Becker BK16 Many of the pictures of knives for sale show that same Saber grind bk16 with the new coating and it has been that way for many months. I always wondered about that but chalked it up to somebody using a KaBar picture or just goofing around with computers.

I just want to make absolutely SURE that i am getting the real deal. Some people/country's are pretty ingenious at copying things these days. I'll wait for Ethan or Toooj to chime in.

Ok. Here are some updates that may or may not help.

In the Tech Talk With Toooj section I put a post about this thread and Toooj replied:

"Dexwithers,
I do believe some of the sabre ground BK-16s made it into places other than Smoky Mt Knife works. There were also protos and pre-production pieces that made it into people's hands prior to being released. Don't worry; it's not a conspiracy. (yes it is)"

Now that makes sense.... But my friend Luke has been in contact with Ka-bar about this matter and they requested him to send some pictures of his knife.
This is what Ka-bar customer service had to say:

"Thank you for sending photos. The current model of the BK16 is going to be the one viewed in your photos. The first version had a complete flat grind. You may still find the older versions at our retailers. If you have any further questions please contact customer service again."

So it seems as if we still don't know exactly what the deal is.

I think I am more confused now. haha
