The BK16 They Told You Did't Exist!!

Either tooj is trying to keep everything on the down low or this has turned out to be a great mystery. If what kabar is saying is true looks to me like my grail knife is in the works..... Yayyyy bk 10's and saber 16's

The original prototype of the BK16 was a half grind, or saber grind. There were multiple pieces in the original introductory run of the half grind and many of these were either given away to vendors at trade shows or "misplaced". Several undoubtedly were mixed in with the current production model, which has a full grind. This change took place around the same time we began to shift to a thicker powder coat, though the two features were not exclusive to one another. We aren't sure how many were created or have entered the marketplace, but we would guess there are dozens.

ok... thanks dex for confusing me too. Is there a new gen 16 coming out in a saber grind? does that mean that the current ffgs will no longer be made???

and here I was, happy with an fpr 16 tucked away in it's box and playing with a regular 17...sigh...

Well from what Official Ka-bar said, No. We don't get a Saber grind 16.

I believe that Ka-bar should offer two BK16's.

A BK16S and a BK16F. I know many people would buy both.

And eventually A BK26S and a BK26F. (BK26 would be the D2 version)

Where do we vote for these changes? lol

OKB, thanks for chiming in and answering the question. Personally I have the saber grind and I loves it. I will be getting another FFG eventually I'm sure. I traded mine for some Godspeed sexiness.

Although I like the saber grind 16, I sure hope the ffg ones don't go away. I like the look of it so much more. I just need time to get one or I'll be heading for a bk divorce.

no worries - the ffg is here to stay i'm betting. i like the looks of the sabre-grind better but when it comes down to it, a ffg slices so much better.

You might want to go ahead on knock on some wood... You don't want THAT curse to bite you.

It really does. Personally if I'm doing some bush work I prefer the saber, it just seems a bit beefier/stout behind the grind line. That 16 FFG is a wicked beast though!

KaBar isn't likely to ever go fake to Saber Grinds when they converted over to other grinds.

would be a bit of a nightmare for them in terms of inventory control, stock numbers, confusing vendors, and more

i keep hoping the BK2 will go FFT, but given the design is 30 years old, unlikely :D

so, yeah, as officially stated, it's my understanding that a lot of early models of things "escaped" into the wild. considering them early demo version or prototypes. some are sterile (no stamps or lasers), some have weird marks or other such.

today date, i'm only aware of a handful of fake Beckers. some chinese folx in association with Boker? attempted a hamfisted copy of the BK6 WITH Ethan's logos and even his picture/signature on the box (fake fake fake), and this OTHER company has some that stole some look and feel but didn't quite go "all the way", but really, you haven't made it, until people try to pirate you :D

Ok, probably the last update:

Toooj replied again to the Tech thread about this situation, This is what he had to say:

All,

I spent some time with the drawing files and in the warehouse looking at BK-16s. The textured, saber ground blade is an anomily. One must have slipped through the cracks.... or we are being hosed.
The last revision to date is:

1) Full flat ground blade
2) Textured powder coat

This is what you should get in a BK-16 Box.

That's my story and I'm stickin to it.

I know that's not what some of us wanted to hear but that seems to be the final word on the situation.

Thank you Toooj for all your time spent looking into this for us. You rock Sir!!

And for all you Full Flat Grind lovers out there, you won this round.

But you really don't know what you are missing out on with the Saber Grind till you get one and compare. Haha.

Well then, that settles that. Now, how about that new sabre grind BK-11, 14, and 24....my dream come true, and in polished 440A no less. Thanks KB for listening.

older pic. they are the top two knives but you can really only see the saber grind in the top one.

well, somebody go tell the owner of the unicorn to lock it away. That baby will sure fetch some moolah in a couple of years.

Guess I am just lucky as I have both but I bought both of mine in a small store in Vonore,Tn. which is only a few miles from
me ~~ guess it is just luck as me not even a Becker-Whatever.!** I just get um and give all my Beckers a new Custom Leather Sheath and Custom Micarta Scales and put them in one of my Safes as that it where most of the Queens go and they don't see the light of day very often.*
