The BladeForums 2022 Traditional Knife Thread

I'm looking at other threads for answers and thought I'd ask here while I search.

What individual or company can take credit for the first slipjoint ever produced?

What individual or company can take credit for the first bunny pattern produced?

HA !!! 🤣 ... I have PERFECT teeth and can eat all the candy I want
(snap-in, so no mobility issues whatsoever ... and no paste required. Nine implant posts to hold 'em in)

$15K?

6-8mos journey through plenty of pain and discomfort and oodles of dentist visits.
$21K out of pocket between 2 dentists in 2 cities, extractions, bone grafts, implants, dentures ... plus (+) whatever Delta Dental High paid.
Super glad only have to go through it once. Much happier now than with originals. YMMV
A blessing during the time of seemingly endless pain and discomfort was that everyone was required to wear masks in public
So, I didn't have to wear dentures over sore gums most of the time and they had a better chance to heal.
Warm salt water and good drugs were my best friends ever ... but thankfully not forever
EDIT: Push had not come to shove but the writing was on the wall.
Figured at my age I'd go ahead and do it while I still had a good "constitution".

As for your first question, it’s one that’s probably impossible to answer. With a quick google search I found there is some evidence that slipjoint knives were invented as early as the 1600s.

As far as who produced the first bunny knife, I don’t know but if the history posted in this thread is anything to go off of, it was probably some hungry Ozzie with a hankering for rabbit.

I'm 73 with a full upper.... Bottom teeth are all root canals and crowns.... Some bottom teeth are loosening..... Single implants are $3K - $5K, I believe..... I have no dental insurance.... Not sure what I should do going forward.... $5K would buy a lot of GEC knives!!😎👍... Thank you for the information....

Im in the prices of a root canal...3k aud....no wonder they wear masks.....cheaper to fly to Thailand and get it all done...no joke.

As for the first Bunny knives...English and German cutleries seem to have latched on to a marketing strategy...rebadging a fairly standard jackknife design for the exploding Australian rabbitting industry....from what I can gather..

Thats true Kev...I think they found one around Hadrians wall...with a letter written to his Mrs back in Rome...some things never change.

Folding knives have been around since before the Roman Empire.
I read an article that showed a few folders that were as old as like 300 B.C. but in that same article it said that the earliest folding knife that could be called a slipjoint, meaning one that has a spring that keeps the knife in the open position, was dated to the mid 1600s. I can't attest to the validity of that article but I thought it was interesting.

“All-on-4” would be 4 implants, with a full denture mounted on it. Each implant, from the surgeon I got lower done with, is $2500. Denture should be $10-$15k, so you should be able to get it done for ~$20-$25k.

Yes, that is expensive. I am saving to get my upper done, and drive a really old paid-for car in the meantime.

Dentist stories makes my jaw ache. I spent several hours in the chair getting an industrial cleaning and after that several visits to “fix” several teeth but after that first visit I stopped drinking any soft drinks and I brushed my teeth every day as usual but now I never ever miss flossing every night!

The only dentist joke I know is;
A fellow asked the dentist “how much to pull a tooth?”
Dentist said “It’s $40 to extract a tooth “
The guy says “$40 for a few minutes work?!!!”
To which the dentist replied “Well, if you want, I can pull it real slow...”
;)

But back to the Bunny Knife, should be some assembly completed by today maybe??

I think we should hop back over to bunnies.
What teeth I have left are starting to hurt 😆
With all the knives I’ve owned I could have a full set of pearly whites 🤣 with a few extra for back ups. Fortunately my show side still look good and I just eat a lot of pasta and sea food lol. Steaks when I’m up for the challenge 🤪
