The Bonecutter Files

Lookin back, I can't believe that I grabbed one of the first ones! I have to take some looong awaited pics. :D

Thanks for a great thread. Too bad so many of the recent offering have lost some of the distintive bone cutter shape.

Yeah the more recent bonecutters are losing the smooth curve to the spine and the blade curves farther out. The original Bonecutters curve was more near the handle.

They are also getting really heavy.

Well, what are you waiting for? POST! Like it? Want one? You know who to ask. Auntie! This one is NFS! moo hah hah.

there will be more from me on this soon. Be sure of it.

Cmon, NFS?????????
:grumpy:
Seriously, I really want that.
Where can I buy?

Well, the "bonecutter" arrived today.

It's a pretty subsantial blade. I took some quick pictures for now to compare against a few other HI khukris that I have handy... Here they are:

Features from top to bottom: AK, "BC", CAK, all 20 inches. The edge profile on the "BC" appears to be about 1/2 of that of the AKs. Might be really solid at chopping?

Features a classic Old Style GRS and the "BC". The GRS is really what the "BC" should be imho. Look at the edge profile on that. Look at how super wide and blunt. Perfection :)

Finally, a LARGE GRS, large CAK, large GRS, CAK, "BC". Interesting to compare overall shapes and edge profiles.

My conclusion is that the "BC" with the 4 handles pins that I received today is perhaps a Super-CAK with 5mm edge profile, but sadly, it's is not the Praj/GK-Bonecutter copy we all would like.

I'm going to suggest some templates and models for another go?

bringing out the old good stuff

but whats the difference in strength and performance between the higher and shorter beveled edges. i love the looks of the middle large GRS from the last pic

well, the wide the edge bevel, the more slicey and deeper the chopping, i should think...

the shorter blunder edge will be more tough, more splitting and chopping hardcore action on hard things, like perhaps super tough wood, and such. it'll cut just fine, but won't be "slicey"...

yeah, that middle GRS was old school perfection, quite old at this point. the top one is a pointer neo model, and they tend to vary over time, and which kami is making them. you just have to wait until the wheel swings around, and the pendulum is in sync to get what you want. or beg. a lot :)

ive already put the begging in. around the first of the yr i should be able to get one made by the SGT K.

i might request a slightly modified one to have a bc/scak/pointy for defense/ maybe fuller or double fuller(i love fullers and the double is wicked)/ high bevel edge like the old GRS or the first BC after the S-CAK(i think it looks super sexy) but want strength to do serious chopping

i havent made my mind up completely

sorry, thread necrophilia? naw, it's time for a quick resurface :D
