While admiring Enrique Pena's terrific Bose inspired BackPocket knife, I thought it might be fun to start a thread dedicated to those knives either built by the gentlemen from Wilfred Works or built upon their pattern which they have so generously shared with other makers.

For the purposes of this thread, let's limit entries to knives based and built upon the Bose "BackPocket" pattern as opposed to adding just any single blade trapper.

I will offer the following two knives to start things off:

Joe Allen: 4.5" BackPocket in Allen's own jigged bone & ATS-34:

And though my images are hardly worthy of the knife, here is the real deal, a 4 1/8" BackPocket (#4) by the master himself, Tony Bose, done up in stag and CPM-440V (S60V):

So, now feel free to add your "BackPocket" originals from the Wilfred Works or built by other fine makers based upon the pattern as supplied by Tony Bose & Co.

Enjoy. :thumbup::cool:

Here is one from Mike Zscherny. It is not near as new as the picture anymore, but I still love this knife and carry it quite often. Mike made it from Tony's pattern. It was the first knife I purchased from Mike. Blues made me buy it. :D

Great knife, Gus. Now there's something I don't mind getting blamed for! ;)

This thread brings up something that also needs to be mentioned. It seems that just about every multiblade maker I talk to gets a lot of advice, help and encouragement from those two at Wilfred Works. Just shows what a class act both of those guys are. They have done quite a bit to create a legacy of fine makers.

You said it, Gus. That is the true inspiration for this thread as mentioned in the OP. (But bears repeating.)

Without the kindness, prodding and influence of those gents, guys like us would have a lot less to obsess over (but a lot more money in our wallets). :p

Okay, at the risk of getting ridiculed, scorned and having my name removed from various makers lists , I'm going to ask a question I've always wondered:

Do most of you actually carry back pocket knives in your back pockets? I've tried sticking larger trappers in my back pocket (next to my wallet) and they always seem to fall out.

I carry mine either way. More comfortable (for me) to sit with it in the front pocket...But let's try not to get sidetracked from the original discussion for now...

Aw come on Elliot don't go posting these pics!
This is my all time favorite slippie pattern and here you go posting pics of the master.........You are a big enabler :p

You have officially been added to my list of collectors who turn me GREEN and I am not Irish:D

Awesome knife bud.......:)

Great idea for a thread Blues.
Your BackPocket is a true "Grail Knife" if there ever was one.

(Just sent you a PM...)

Oh, and Steven, I'm not sure how much of an enabler I can be considered. They're not too easily come by. :p

Flymon,

That knife of Kerry's ain't no slouch and I bet that etched A2 will cut well. :D.

I have been known to put mine in my back pocket, but old habits die hard since my right front is usually empty other than a knife. I have found that when I do not mix anything with the knives in my pocket (other than a bandanna, took the hint from jackknife on that) they will stay decent looking for years.

Keeps me from breaking my no-purse pledge. :D.

Nah. I can't stand having anything in my back pockets, so I made a pocket sheath for this one by Kerry Hampton. It's the big 4.5" model, with a zulu spear blade of 52100.

That's a honey, James!

(I'm a big fan of 52100 and got Kerry's first in that steel along with the Ol' Dawg's heat treat.)

There's nothing like the "real deal",as you say Elliott,so I will have to continue this post to your "Holy Grail" thread.
Beautiful knives here,
-Vince

Adding Enrique's knife since it is based on Tony's pattern:
