The Bose "BackPocket" Knife

This is one of the early versions of the back pocket knife and the blade shape is like the R-1123 pattern. I have carried this knife with me almost every day since I have had it. 4.5" closed CPM 440V with ground finish.

Here is my KH copy of the back pocket that I recieved last year. It now shares pocket time (front, can't stand putting them in the back) with the 2009 BF Barlow.

I think I have a couple that might qualify.

Blues - I notice all knives posted thus far are bare-back. Would a knife of this pattern with an end cap be considered a "BackPocket" knife too?

I think you mean bare head not bare back.

It would be considered a "backpocket" pattern if it is based upon Tony Bose's pattern. Otherwise it would be a single blade trapper (with or without a cap).

I don't recall seeing a Bose backpocket pattern with a cap but that doesn't necessarily mean anything.

All very nice examples y'all!

Hey Elliott, when are you going to start a thread for the "front pocket" derivative?

I'm not sure I feel comfortable posting these.....they are far from "THE REAL THING"! But here are a few that were derived from Tony's BP pattern.

This is the first folder I ever even attempted.

Here are some that came later.

Is this the new addition? When I saw it disappear from the website, I figured you probably got it. It had been calling to me all week but it's voice kept echoing in my empty wallet.

Yes, it is the "pickpocket" that stole my $.:p

I have two questions, if someone can enlighten me.

First, what design features makes it a back pocket knife as opposed to a single blade trapper on the remington bullet style?

Second what makes this a Bose design? Were these all made from Tony's patterns?
When I look at these examples I see Remington...not Bose. They certainly are not copies, but the genetic code is remington trapper.

See post #27 where he said it was based on a Remington pattern. He calls it a back pocket because that's where he carries it. As you can see from the knives posted here, there are some variations on the pattern. A lot of the other makers have received Tony's version of the pattern to base their knives on.

As Tony has said in the past, he doesn't invent these knife patterns; he brings them back from the past.

Nice knives posted in this thread.

Well said, Mike.

If one looks at the various knives it is clear that not only are different blade profiles employed but there are subtle differences in the frame as well. (Such as the location of the "swell" (or even the lack thereof). Some are closer to the bolster, some closer to the center of the handle.) So while the lineage may be an homage to Remington, the pattern has evolved and grown into a variety of incarnations.

I have carried a big knife in my back pocket most of my life and have called it a BackPocket knife just as long. A backPocket knife is ANY big knife that you carry in your back pocket. In my quest to find the one that suited me the best I have made many different ones. The one I make now is the one I like the best and I call it my BackPocket model.

These are some beautiful knives and I love the 4-5 inch closed range. For those of you that carry these in your backpocket, do you sit on them or do you push them vertical whenever you need to sit down?

Adam, this was my solution for carrying a knife in my back pocket, keeping it vertical and from putting a hole in my jeans. YMMV.
