The brutal slamming of Dirty Dave

"Brutal slamming"? Man, this guy was just handed a fist full of daisies compared to the guys at Shooterstalk.com. With that type of display, he would have been evicerated and deep fried. They're a pretty good bunch over there, but you'd better have thick skin. Actually, it's one of the reasons I came over here. It's nice to know that being polite actually matters.

Let's keep this from getting personal, folks.

Flash, your location in Texas left out the last part. It should read, "Where MEN are still MEN, and the Sheep are NERVOUS!"

I think part of the problem here might be miscommunication -- I think when DirtyDave titled a thread "Knife Outlet - The Ugly" http://www.bladeforums.com/ubb/Forum25/HTML/001007.html he meant "ugly" to mean not as bad as "bad," not criminal swindling, but just a little rudeness on the phone. Dave, most of us understand that word differently here ... when we use the word "ugly" on this forum we mean that dealer is much worse than just a bad dealer; he's a *&^$^%#@ low-down cheatin' lyin' skunk who ought to be in prison, if not in a kettle of boiling oil.

Obviously there's more to this contratemps than that, but I think that pushed people over the edge.

Speaking of going over the edge ... um ... ever notice that "IP: Logged" at the bottom of every post? That means (as you would know if you read the FAQs here) that the IP address you post from is logged and can be read by moderators and administrators ... and although any trolling weenie can open a second account here using a different name, using a different IP address takes a little more geekitude than that. In short, DirtyDave aka NuclearWinter65 does not have that geekitude. There are numerous other clues and even without looking at the IP it's pretty obvious, but the IP address confirms he is a trolling weenie.

There are parts of the net where that sort of game is regarded as amusing, but here at Bladeforums we feel differently about it. You don't have to use your real name here, anonymous email addresses are fine (except hotmail, for well-known reasons), and you don't have to put any email address in your profile at all if you don't want to -- but pretending to be someone else who just happens to be on your side in a disagreement goes over the edge of what we consider honorable conduct here.

While I'm here, let me put in an off-topic plug for the seacoast town of Ogunquit, Maine, a great vacation spot where the people are friendly and the scenery is beautiful -- but there are, unfortunately, no knife stores.

Cougar,
Thanks for filling us in and using the technology to settle the thread. A little reason goes a long way. Glad to have you back from your vacation.

Oh Yeah
Hank,
thanks for the add-on.

Not that an explaination is even remotly in order. But, must address the *cyper-cops*. Nuc is actually my best friend and trusted confidant. His posting was in defense of me, but not necessarily with my blessing. some investigative work!!! Do you actually think I am that damn dumb? Never mind, don't answer that. I assure you, I was NOT replying to my own posts. The defense of a friend who was here to witness the transactions in question and then validate, no harm, no foul. I simply based an honest opinion, by one person. The onslaught of negative remarks and sarcasm was insane. I am glad someone was here to say a few words. I am new to the forum, got a little excited about the ability to share information and went for it. I have since learned to chill. About negative product info...go by a Timberline Discovery, pay 80.00 and enjoy the disappointment. Like I've said about three times now... I am surfing off the site for a while, not quite what I expected. Enjoy!!!

Cougar, a little tip on your observation of people having the same ip address. If these guys are buddies at the same place of employment, say a state or county correctional facility, and that facility has a firewall, like most in this state do, and that firewall employs NAT or network address translation, then all anyone will see on this side of the firewall is the firewall's ip. I wouldn't peg names with that piece of evidence. I even have a firewall at home since I am on a cable modem and desire better protection against hackers. I'm a network manager and sys. admin. for a large govt. facility here, and we deal with similar but much more devious situations quite regularly.

Like I said, this is toooooooo funny.

HankS, you have a good point, but in that case why would someone in that situation identify themselves as a disinterested third party? If I'm going to stand up for a friend I sure as hell woundn't spin a tale to do it.

This is a rough crowd. I think you guys scared off NuclearWinter

This gets all the more interesting ... my first impression was DirtyDave was not really a bad guy and with a little education in etiquette he could turn into a decent member, but now I am beginning to have doubts about that....

It did strike me as conceivable that someone else who works at the same office as DirtyDave might have opened a new account to express his outrage at the way poor innocent DirtyDave was being treated, and might have omitted to mention his relationship with DirtyDave, and though it is highly unlikely that anyone would have exactly the same characteristically incoherent writing style and the same pattern of errors in spelling and grammmar, it was worth looking into before I posted that they are the same person. I figured I'd spare everybody the boring technical details last time, but now he's denying the fraud they've become interesting technical details.

Some computers have a full-time net connection with a constant IP address, and if someone else used the same computer at a different time, at an office, say, they would both post from the same IP. Most of us, like DirtyDave, use computers that are not online 24/7, though, and every time we log on to the net we get an IP address assigned for the session, which will usually have a different ending each time we log on.

In the thread "Knife Outlet - The Ugly":
DirtyDave posted 09-18-2000 05:17 PM IP Number 63.202.23.2
DirtyDave posted 09-19-2000 05:32 AM IP Number 63.202.20.57
DirtyDave posted 09-19-2000 02:30 PM IP Number 63.202.23.99
NuclearWinter65 posted 09-19-2000 03:29 PM IP Number 63.202.23.99

In this thread:
NuclearWinter65 posted 09-19-2000 03:32 PM IP Number 63.202.23.99
DirtyDave posted 09-19-2000 03:44 PM IP Number 63.202.23.99
DirtyDave posted 09-19-2000 05:04 PM IP Number 63.202.23.99
DirtyDave posted 09-19-2000 05:10 PM IP Number 63.202.23.99
DirtyDave posted 09-20-2000 06:30 AM IP Number 63.202.20.51

Note his first post starting the thread on the morning of the 18th he posted from IP Number 63.202.23.2 but his post early the next morning is from IP Number 63.202.20.57 and when he logged on again that afternoon he got the IP Number 63.202.23.99

By the way, all of those IPs resolve to the same server at pacbell.net DirtyDave and NuclearWinter65 both put AOL email addresses in their profiles (different AOL addresses, but AOL gives their members several email addresses each and allows and even encourages them to play games with identity -- though this kind of game is frowned on even in AOhelL).

Then DirtyDave posted 09-19-2000 02:30 PM IP Number 63.202.23.99 and 59 minutes later NuclearWinter65 posted 09-19-2000 03:29 PM IP Number 63.202.23.99 Why did it take him nearly an hour to open a new account under a different name and write a short post from a disinterested observer expressing his outrage at the way poor innocent DirtyDave was being treated? Maybe it took him 45 minutes of concentrated thought to think up the brilliantly clever subterfuge?

Then 3 minutes later NuclearWinter65 started a new thread, this one, with a duplicate of that post, and 12 minutes after that DirtyDave replied with the post that begins, "Thanks for the knid words NW, but don't need anyone to stick up for me" -- still using IP Number 63.202.23.99 He made two more posts in that session, beginning, "Nope, not one in the same. Soory to dsiappoint you" and "Hows the dog grooming busines going?" The first post in that session was at 02:30 PM and the last at 05:10 PM. The next day he logged on again and thus got a different IP to post the message beginning "Well slap me in the butt and call me Sally!!! I am already getting hate mail form morons."

There are ways to avoid leaving this kind of evidence if you know a little bit about the way the net works, but even then you can seldom fool anybody on the net. Besides the obvious smell of a new member suddenly appearing to do things like defend someone no one else seems to have any urge to defend, everyone has a characteristic writing style -- even people who can spell and understand the basic rules of grammar have a distinctive style of writing that is hard to disguise, and with semi-literates like most of the dorks who play this game it's rather more obvious than the usual fingerprint analogy -- more like a large assortment of conspicuous scars and tattoos. It isn't just two usernames saying the same things who both misspell words and write incoherently; it's two usernames saying the same things with the same pattern of misspellings and incoherence.

>>>Now, this is some good sleuthing, Cougar! The isp info is good. If this is a dial up acct., then a new ip will be granted almost every time one dials up. That it wasn't doled out - DHCP is the protocol used for us network geeks! - then it was all done from the same session at that time.<<<

>>>Email addresses aren't necessarily indicative of anything. I use my Yahoo acct. as my primary, and I'll never use my isp's acct. except for incidentals since my isp may come and go. I started on PacBell but felt the "need for speed," and went to AT&T @Home. Using an email acct. from a major portal that's free seemed much more stable than an isp's. Lots of other people do the same. You don't have to give out a new email address each time you change isp's, and you can get to it from most anywhere on the internet.<<<

The last was the clincher on it. If it is a friend, then they're both sitting at the same computer! So, Cougar, it sounds like you use Jolt cola to mix with your Bacardi 151! Keep this up, and we'll add "Resident SuperGeek" to your title!

My bottom line now is to let it all pass like a bad tamale...or was it bad sushi like Bram had Don eat?

Is your name really Cougar or is it......... Matlock! I love it when people like Dirty Dave step on their weenie!!!

If he keeps this up he won't be able to get into betty-crocker-forums.com.

It's been fun and educational.

Dave-you're BUSTED. Give it a rest, take some time off, stop opening your mouth to switch feet, and start over.

I started on this forum @ the suggestion of one of my peers, who thought I was some kind of knife "psycho", but he thought I might actually do some good. I've since shown him the warm response, including the accusation of being a fraud, secondary to Paul’s posting. He's dumbfounded. The site has the ability to be cool, but not with this bunch. They’re bored, crotchety, ill mannered and chumming the waters waiting for someone to swim in too close. I am, however, deeply honored and surprised at the amount of time and energy some have put into this. Kudos to Colombo, Shaft, Dick Tracy and J. Edgar Hoover!!! It’s been a real blast folks. And I am not going away mad, just going away, as one posting suggested. PS… for you brain surgeons out there stop for a moment and think “gee, if this guy is a pain in the butt fraud that responds to his own postings, aren’t we reinforcing him by responding so vigorously”??? And Jail Hack, expected more support from someone who has the balls to work behind the walls, as that is my particular vocation, love your handle. Ever fire on a hand cuffed prisoner?
Party on wayne…: cool:
