Buck Me!, You can't beat that deal, awesome! for days now I have been trying to figure out what knife in the 100 family I had aquired back in 1978, but it was a earlier knife......I aquired one last night. But after seeing yours
I'm questioning did I get the right one? I beleive right now this is the knife! what was confusing me was the blade length? and style for starters. I thought for sure the one I had was over 5 1/2 inches more like 6 inches.............which made me thing it was the 121, the only thing was the up sweep at the tip of the blade sof all the others even the 121 seemed more extreme than I remembered.
Your knife reminds way more of the one I had. The blade staight as arrow and and in this photo depiction the tip looks correct....and it has the flap over sheath, the sheath does look a little narrower than I thought. The other thing in my memory the Number #5 about the 105? kept knawing at me.....I must of been wrong about the length this is 5 1/2? right. So did I get aquire the right one?????????????? I'll post it up here after it arrives.

Thanks Buck Me! for sharing this photo an your great deal!

Sweet! I love seeing these old 100s. I'd say you got your money's worth.

Mule, the 105 Pathfinder has a 5" blade, unless these older ones were longer.

Your correct they were 5". Plus, the sheath of this 105 is not the flap over style. It has a bottom keeper strap. A different sheath. DM

David,

Is that an original Buck sheath in the photo above? What year did they go to the flap sheath?

DM. Thats what I'm trying to figure out were the older 105's pushing 5 1/2 +. Its haunting me, I know the knife blade on the 100? I had was pretty straight forward, no bells an whistles except MAYBE? it did have the same tip in this photo above, In this photo I think it did, but I'm still sure it did?

DM, I don't what we do with out on this forum, your knowledge is scary, thats and a very high compliment!!!!! from me.

I may have to aquire a 105 hopefully a older one 60's early 70's.....LOL to sort this all out. No harm in that though.....I'll start a collections of 100's....

TAH, your right they appear to be exactly the same except for length....I'll know when that 121 comes in, I can't wait! The sheath looks correct I may need to get DM to check it out after I do a photo shoot an put it up here....though you'll probably know too. I'm the only one in the dark here...LOL "1973 BUCK 121 INVERTED 3 LINE TANG STAMP W ORIGINAL SHEATH" thats her....

I believe the inverted stamp was last used in 72. So it is probably a 72, I could be wrong won't be the first or last time. Both the 72 & 73 guard has two micarta spacers and two aluminum spacers. Pommel has two micarta spacers and one aluminum spacer. So the stamp is basically the only difference. Again I could be wrong, you never know with Bucks.

I looked this up in Joe Houser's hand out information sheets from his lecture on the 100 series from Buck's 20yr. reunion. He states the flap over sheaths began in 1967. Perhaps some can be found as early as late 1966. In Me's photo; that is the original sheath. I have that knife in my collection a 1963 model and it has that sheath. His may be a little newer. If he would show a pommel photo I'd know. DM

This is accurate. DM

Thank you... I doubt one could find a early 105 with that length blade. I recall seeing a 70's 105 with a 5 1/8" blade but I've not seen one as long as your inquiring about. DM

It takes years of reading and research. This information is not found in just one book. Notes from reliable, long term collectors offer some of the best insights. Haa, we still argue about some of these points. DM
