FBC put your ops on hold yo!

Hi Sloth!!!

Look out for a collab with Tony at Inrangedesign {TRfromMT here on Bladeforums, you guys know him!} We are collaborating on Titanium Backpackers... Tony just sent me pics and these are going to be nuts! Look out for killer sculpted and shadowboxed wood handles! If you have wanted a premium Backpacker or one with an awesome handle this is it!

Cripes! I better get to work!

What's up guys!

Been busy working on getting my shit together for a rifle match this Saturday. Only downside is it starts at 0800, four hours away! last time I left for Reno at those hours I was fueled by something else, lol! Put together a good little combination of my wildcat varmint AR upper on my service rifle lower, should prove to be a sturdy rig and those little bullets going Mach 3.3 don't get blown around in the wind very much.

I should also have time to take my camera to this match as they only run 6 firing stations so you sit around waiting for your turn to spot or shoot. I don't normally have time to take photos at my matches

Daniel, I'm liking the sound of those BackPackers! Re: disc grinder, I use an 8-7/8" disc so I can use whatever 9x11 paper I want and just trim it. I started out with a disc grinder and can make an entire knife on one, they're incredibly versatile.

Xander have fun at the match! Sounds like a good setup, good stuff.

Thanks on the Backpackers! Tony is just knocking them out of the park.

I'm prepping a bunch of blades for heat treat, making foil pouches for the same, working on a bunch of fixed blades and doing a lot more milling and drilling of folders.

Have a good one guys!!!

Phew. Move is nearly done. House is painted - most of our crap is inside it. Still need to get an electrician in to deal with some annoying "improvements" the idiot prior owner made.

I don't recommend moving if it can be avoided, folks. Makes my ancestors preference for caravans a very attractive option. Why move your stuff when you can just move your house?

Hope you all are doing well. I've missed yah. :D

What's up Rolf! :D

Hi Liam! I hear you on the moving! We are looking for a new place in the area and the move will not be easy! lol I do have tons of rocks and stuff.... anybody need some Rhodonite?

The sheep herders actually rock the caravans, they are like a covered wagon made from a car chassis and they live in them {and in tents} year round. I caught the sheep herd on the way to town the other day but luckily got to drive through the herd vs past it! lol they have massive sheep herds on the highway here... I'll get a pic if I ever have the camera in the car, it's kind of wacky!

I hope the new place is great!!!

Folders today! I'm finally getting to heat treat a load of blades tomorrow.

I have all sorts of stuff coming up! I'm also planning a massive Vietnam era Fighter/Bowie beast knife with a bronze guard and stacked leather handle. I want to make it over the top style wise...

I'm having a blast with folders right now! I just opened the books a few days ago and already have a one month wait... am about to shut down the list once I get one or two more orders in.

"I could go with my old method of just dive in and do it, screw it up and do it over until it works" FBC

DFK... {accidental edit!!!}
That sounds like a plan!

I'm figuring it out right now... about to order the bronze soon and posted a thread in Shoptalk asking about the type of Bronze I am considering. There will be quite a lot to this one including some sort of threaded on pommel or the likes.

Xander made me an awesome leather handled fighter!

This knife is going to be wild! I have a lot in the works so I consider it a side project and it might take a while...

I think Knifekits has some Burch for sale, that's when I started thinking stacked handle! I've been looking at the Randall catalog now.

Sorry about erasing your post Kevin!!! I thought I quoted you but I was apparently in mod mode.. oh man!

Guys, that above post no longer makes any sense due to my amazing moderating powers... my apologies!!! :foot:

What's up all?

Today is recovery day here... somehow, Mrs. fromMT got me to run a half marathon with her yesterday. Was my first, and without question, my last. I think my pain is punishment enough... I don't need you jokers to ridicule me, much as I may deserve it.

I've be modded! haha
D, have you seen this documentary?

Sup guys!

That match I shot on Saturday was the toughest match I have ever shot! Top score for the match was 21 out of 40, I took 3rd with 17/40! It was crazy windy there, steady 15-18 knots with gusts to 25+ knots! 20 shots standing, 20 shots sitting. 5 shots, 3.5 minutes, one shot per target at 3 different yardage in random order called by your spotter, 1 minute break, 5 more shots in a different random order. Targets were either life size or smaller, squirrel, crow, rabbit, 2/3 size woodchuck, 1/2 size coyote. Top score standing was 6/20, I shot 5. Super fun, very challenging, and I was so impressed with the match and match director I decided to join the club even if it is in another state! My little .204 sized bullets going crazy fast sure worked well for the match too! That facility has targets out to 2200 yards as well, that's over a mile! Once I get my 30-'06 back from the gun smith (new barrel) and I get it bedded into its new stock I will be taking it up there as well, I like those long shots!

Daniel, that Randall-esque knife your doing is freaking awesome! Guard fitting is always a pain, but with brass/bronze if you under cut your tang below the ricasso you can lightly peen over the slot to get that rock solid fit then solder from the backside. Pencil lead is a great tool to keep the solder from spreading further than you want, just draw some heavy lines and it won't creep past it.

Sounds like a fun time, fast14riot. What speed are you running the .204? Ever do a group through a chrono?

This rifle is chambered in .20 Practical which mirrors .204 Ruger ballistics with 2 grains less powder. This load is running about 3600fps, but it's a middle of the road charge with 39gr bullets that I just threw together for the match. I had run out of IMR4198 and 32gr Vmax. I have another load I use with 32gr Vmax that chronos at 4000. I can push 26gr pills up to around 4300 in this gun. Even for a wildcat, it's pretty easy going on brass.

Thanks Xander! That guard was tough but looks pretty seamless... took most of a day to make the two I chose from {made a nice steel one too} and three expensive endmills... lol which should have lasted longer! The grind only took about an hour or two and I worked a ten hour day on the knife. I'm beyond excited with the outcome.

That sounds excellent on the shooting and choice of ammo/setup! Nice work!

Thanks Sloth! That was a steal!

Knives today! I already have the handle for the fighter glued together... the center of the handle is green micarta and matches the tang thickness and tightly follows the perimeter.. after that I sandwiched the piece between more green micarta with red and black liners! It's looking good...
