Hey all!

Quiet here, except we get to go to a BBQ for a young man who just graduated from the Marine Corps officer school. I had the pleasure of writing a referral letter for him and I am hopeful for our country when I spend time with this young man. Can't wait to hear his stories! He completed the last 10 mile hike they do with a sprained ankle that now turns out is torn tendons needing surgery. He wanted it bad!

Orale!!!! Whas up mangs! '

Tony that is good stuff on the referral and what it has come to be!

Busy here! Backpackers and RF3's today!

Sup fellas! Blender is running and Margheritas are flowing! Happy Sunday!

Just finished loading up a batch of .223 for a match next weekend. Gonna really test my skills, shooting the .223 in a long range match with iron sights! Since I've been winning consistently lately, I figure I need to change it up a bit. Also working with an experimental projectile for my 6.8 and long range shooting. Longer ranges than I've been developing my current loads for, like 800-900 yard loads.

Oh! The vintage St. Croix rod worked very well yesterday! Fishing was so-so, lots of really small schooling bluegill, but the rod has a nice actions and casts really, really well!

Good morning guys!

Nice shooting X... 900 yards, wow! Cool on the rod too, there is a guy who has an awesome assortment of vintage equipment here.... I should see if he has any.

Hey Rolf! I have new belts coming in this week for your tanto! :)

Big week ahead! I ground 8 knives yesterday...

Coffee, guys!!
Happy Monday!
Thank you, Daniel! I'm very excited about this one. Thanks for making it! Can you please make the knife in honor of Phill?

Thanks a lot.
Phill is a hero. And, I know he had a big influence on you, Daniel.

 That's a fact!

I found out about Phill when a customer asked if I was a big fan because of the knives I made... I had never seen his knives but when I saw his work it really spoke to me and interestingly enough was what I was really going for... not the exact designs but the minimalist aesthetic and execution to make a very different knife that might work better than the rest.

X, I got you. I have a chain and I will look for those chainrings.
Rock on!

Awesome, I'll bring the forge and anvil over for you. HMU later.

Sup Fairly Fanatics! Another recovery Monday in the bag, lol! My quiet evening plans were dubiously squashed by my oh-so-loving woman of the house. Her best friend's b-day is today and I was looking forward to having the house to just little dude and I. Well, now the party is at my house because her friend isn't done unpacking from a recent move into a new house. Damn, a bunch of catty women on a Monday night is not my idea of a quiet night! Ugh, maybe I'll go fire up the grinder for a bit...

Getting my shit together for another dove hunting season, going to carry my DFK Stinger again, it makes an excellent bird knife! Then a month after that I am headed over to NV for a week of deer hunting. Still need to get a proper drop point hunter from DFK sometime, I'd like to have a DFK for all my outdoor activities.

And... you got that all important HT down pat.
Heat treat makes the knife! I want to do a test video with the AEB-L, it just became available in decent thicknesses this year and I think it is the way to go.

I need to make those drop point hunters! I think I will be releasing a new drop point Backpacker later this year, I'll be using the 15n20 bandsaw blade that I got.

Nice on the hunting! We used to go every year back home.

I miss Ben, BLK.

Good day, all!

I talk to Ben on IG, I think he is doing well!

It would be cool to have everyone back here! I still keep up with everyone that used to hang out here but they are spread out between FB, IG and other places. If BF had a better photo app I think it would go a long ways.

Hey all.
Coffee and bladeforums, gething started for the day
Hey T! I want to send you some Backpackers soon! :D

I'm all over the place today with lots of mailing, sharpening, blasting and sheaths. I'll have 2 new Backpackers in CF and Silver Twill ready soon... glued them up yesterday. I should also have a new RF3 and the Koa Kwaiken ready!

Coffee!
Daniel! Did you master the HT on your own or how did you learn it?

I am always heat treating knives, testing and I read quite a lot about heat treating... keep up on it quite a lot (weekly at the least) as there is a lot to learn. I've also done an extensive amount of testing on every steel that I use a decent amount of and hat has helped me to tune the heat treat and edge geometry together.

My general philosophy is to convert all carbides over as much as possible... most "top secret" heat treats simply use a quench that matches the nose correctly and if a sube zero/cryo is needed for the steel that is done immediately in lieu of a snap temper, etc.

I use 2 different engineered quench oils, brine and plates... also combinations of them. Some steels need a fast quench but a slow later cooling (M4 is a great example) and some need all out speed in every category (W2) Going directly to temper with no hesitation is important.

Heat treat day is my hardest day, I usually spend about 12+ hours making sure everything is going well.

It has always been my philosophy that if I can spend ten times more time on something to make it 10% better then I will do that. Heat treat is a great example, I simply will not cut any corners as that one long day makes the knife for an eternity.
