Here is my interpretation of a Maori Patu that I made of oak. I was going to carve a pattern into it, but I couldn't bring myself to do it right now.

Cool, a wahaika.

I started making one out of seasoned maple back in 2010, worked on it a tiny bit now and then over the years... gonna have to get back at it now.

This thread is too good to let die, here is my work in progress. Had a chunk of h1150 heat treated stainless steel that I snagged from school when I was in my machining classes. Well we tossed it on the haas lathe today. Got the OD and the first half of it turned. Gonna do the hammer face sometime this week we think.

Can any of Yall reccomend a handle diameter? I'm gonna do a stepped hole for the handle. I was thinking a 1" through hole and then and 1.0625"x1" slot above that to give the handle some place to expand when I put a wedge on it

I was thinking oak, ash, or walnut.

The OD is 1.470, and ther will be flats cut on it so the dimensions by the hole will be closer to 1.375 across with the hole in the center of that

I've got a finished render of it on my computer so I'll post a picture when I get home from it

This is render of the CAD file of the finished hammer head and what it will look like shape wise when I finish it....I've already got a coworker offering to polish it....I may take him up on it...or just bead blast it for a matte finish. I haven't decided which yet I may also tape sections off and bead blast others so I can have polished and matte surfaces

2nd half of the hammer head has been turned. I'm hopefully gonna cut the flats soon. My handle material has also changed. I have gotten ahold of a piece of 1" 7075 aluminum round stock that will be used instead and anodized
