The Cold Steel 4 Max Scout is a folding survival knife.

So yea, the master baiter has developed a group of people who have caught on to his shenanigans.
I get that he was super annoying before, I just have a soft spot for people getting piled on.

I think the negativity towards him was justified/earned in previous posts, but he has seemed to tone it down in this post, so I’m inclined to give him another chance.

That’s just me though, and I certainly haven’t read everything he’s posted so I could be missing something too…

I get that, kind of annoying to have him make absurd claims and be questioned on them then he leave and not return to that thread and instead start another.

For those not "in the know" I understand the appearance of the situation. Of course everyone is entitled to their opinions, as well.

I can also agree with the above sentiments as well. shinyedges shinyedges raises valid points as well. No one wants see a site they frequent get polluted by trolls.

The 4-Max Scout successfully passes destructive testing with flying colors.
Do note that you're still going to shear through any pivot with batoning so a folder is never a true replacement for a fixed blade, but this is about as close as you'll ever get (especially for just over $100).
It's obviously a solidly built knife, but it could fail with others/in other knife destruction tests. Every fixed blade fails with this guy, he breaks every fixed blade he touches, while the same ones pass with flying colors in other tests, very popular channels on YT like DBK.

Just sayin

Every thread needs to be approached in isolation. Lasador hasn’t been trolling anyone here in this thread… so why break into the cockpit of the plane and steer it into the ground? Talk about the topic or gtfo.

On topic:
The 4max is certainly a very robust folding knife.. and if I had to take a folder, I’d want the G10 version first… but for the value, the scout cannot be beat. Now that being said, it isn’t comfortable to carry. What is the point in a “survival folding knife” if you are going to carry it in your pack because of it’s size anyway? At that point just carry a fixed. But the novelty of the 4max is the appeal. It’s certainly very capable.. but also cumbersome in the pocket.

Why not split into two? Carry an American Lawman in the pocket, and an SRK in your pack?

And I totally understand that - I certainly don’t want this place filled with trolls.

I’m hoping he just needed some “tempering”, like others I’ve seen on this forum.

Comes in fully hard, is exposed to some heat over time, is softened and gains some flexibility. ;)

If I had to take a folding knife instead of a fixed blade knife into a situation that required a survival knife, the AD10 and 4 Max Scout this would be the the two knives I'd pick!

So, according to you, you wouldn’t go with the original OP statement ?

I agree it's a great knife like so many others but stout it is. I have 2 scouts, one original 4Max-USA and a green monster 4 Max from DLT. I got one for my son and one for my son in law as well. I like them I reckon but I like the Rajah also and a few others, Spyderco is another. There are just so many great knives out there. The problem is I need more $$ to check them all out. Hmm! anyone have any extra. 😁

The only cold steel I ever had was an old Trail
Master. I loved the blade, but absolutely detested the handle. Couldn’t find anyone to rehandle, so I sold it and got a Busse Team Gemini.

I've read just about everything he's posted... man has to know his limitations.

He's established a pattern of behavior that quite honestly I'm done with.

Starts a thread that's inflammatory or controversial, then makes a couple of posts and disappears... the next thread like this will be the last.

Excellent taste in its replacement!
Thanks! Nothing against the Trail Master, a great knife in its own right, but the TGULB is a much more capable and well rounded knife for my woods related tasks. I could be wrong, but I believe it’s stronger as well as much lighter and more comfortable in hand.

Most definitely stronger! I have several cold steels, good knives for the money. But no comparison, tglb over trailmaster all day!

100% agree, I’ve used 7-10” bowies and drop points for 25 years now. Started young at 11 with my father teaching me (2nd battalion 75th reg Army Ranger, man knows survival and is no joke) everything I needed to know. The TGULB is the best all around knife I own, with SYKCO DB 421 being a super close second.

I have a tgulb, tglb and a forsken tg. That size range of knife is super useful, can choke up and do finer stuff but big enough to do some chopping. Long enough to reach the peanut butter at the bottom of the jar. Appreciate your old mans service as well.

Folks who don't know the the whole story or the OP's history or think I, or others are being too hard on the troll - read the above. Then read it again.

Boru (and the other mods) have far more patience for his nonsense than I could ever imagine.

King of the Cheese King of the Cheese - Go ahead, side with the guy that defends Lasador, and add your cute little "like" and "smiley" emojis to his posts. We'll see who is shown the door next. You are two of a kind - trolls tend to stick together. Or maybe you are Lasador.

If I HAD to take a folding knife, Recon 1, or SR1, MAYBE the AD-10. If I had to use a 4max I’d like for Krein to thin up the blade.
So, this is not a straight answer, nor answering my simple question.
‘All this talk about Krein, who’s not taking any folders blade regrinds for a long time, is just taking the subject to different route.
