If continued , these feuds just tend to get more derisive , personally insulting and become irrelevant distractions
Responding in-kind to a rude comment that lacks any degree of rational and constructive criticism to my original comment has nothing to do with being a "reactionary who lets others' personalities dictate" his own. That is vastly overstating things. I also disagree with you about it being "too tiring"----it takes minimal effort.

from the knife interest .

Passion for knives is normal and understood here , but personal insults will nor pass in the long run .

And, if I get "banned" for making a reply in my defense (a reply made without profanity or threats) to a rude comment, then this forum isn't worth my time. Thanks for chiming in nonetheless.

Nobody said anything about banning until you did just now. Profanity and threats are not permitted in GKD, so you followed the rules.

and if people get their feelings hurt or angry about that,

The hurt feelings and anger, on the other hand, look like they started here:

Which kind of contradicts this:

then that's their problem ---not my problem.

In the end, your responses here are basically saying "I will be petty if I don't like how you respond to me, and here's how you can trigger me". I and killgar and others are merely trying to suggest a better way. We're all friends here.

The Cold Steel Voyager in AUS10 steel is THE BEST knife you can buy for the money. I have the clip-point version, and after using this knife, I just can't say enough about how great it is. The lock is incredibly strong, no blade play whatsoever, AUS10 steel is awesome, and for the money, you just cannot beat this knife. The fit and finish is outstanding for a knife at this price. It's not that heavy either. Could you EDC it? It's doable. You could very well do that, but it's big knife, and you may not want to do that because of its size. I can't say enough about the AUS10 steel either. It's a clear upgrade from AUS8, and it performs exceptionally well and is even more corrosive-resistant than AUS 8.

As far as cons go, there are two that I can think of. First, it's difficult to deploy quickly and the handle material could tear your pants given how tight the pocket clip is, but I like a tight pocket clip. Anyway, I'm just throwing this out there as what I think is the best knife you can buy for 50 bucks.
I'm glad you enjoy your Voyager. It's nice that you found the best knife your can buy for the money FOR YOU.

If I were to make a list of the best knives I can buy for the money FOR ME, the Cold Steel Voyager wouldn't be on the first page.

Its cool that we can share differing opinions.

they were really extra great prior to the map pricing. a real bargain back then even with aus8 steel. still not a bad buy at all if one waits for sales.

my dislikes of the knife is the handle texture. adds zero extra grip and is overly rough for no reason. pocket clip area is a pocket shredder unless sanded. the angle the blade sits at is odd to me. works fine but feels a tiny bit off. that aside great knife even at current prices.

If I had my druthers, the Voyager (XL anyway, the large I think is good here already) would have a lightly more negative blade angle, similar to a Military. The handle shape would be a little less sharp and more rounded in the transition points, the texture would be similar to the Gunsite, and the blade length to handle length ratio would be slightly more blade biased, losing something like a quarter inch or so off the butt of the handle. I like a blade tip that goes almost to the very end of the handle when closed. Clip strength is never a problem for me, as I can loosen it by looping some paracord under the clip and pulling, and I can tighten it by removing the clip, sticking it in the vise and bending.

Now, you see, that's exactly my point. I couldn't agree with you more!

CS Voyagers have always been good knives. I still have a couple in AUS8, clip and tanto, and they cut like screaming witches.

...I like that phrase

Cold Steel Voyager, with a slightly blingy blade thanks to Mother's Mag Wheel polish and a Q-tip.[/QUOTE]
...Wow, I can almost see my reflection, Nice
B.T.B.

Ive toyed w buying this knife for a long time still havent gotten one yet the only thing stopping me is the way the handle curves at the back.Does it bother you at all? Not sure why it bothers me maybe only that it looks a bit funny....

I have a Voyager XL I bought a few months ago. It's OK. I like it for a large hard use knife when I need reach but without the strength of a fixed blade. It's kind of a neither fish nor fowl thing for me, though. It's a HUGE knife, especially when open due to the amount of area the Tri-Ad lock requires to bank-vault it up. However, it sports a pretty thin stock of a blade with a fairly fragile tip. It certainly cuts well, but it's not like you can use it along the lines of something like a Pocket Bushman (which still scare the hell out of me to use) where it can almost take the place of a fixed blade in terms of stock thickness and lateral strength.

So then you drop down to the Voyager Large, and I think you give up the extra reach for something that still sits broad in your pocket. If you go down to a medium, there are just way too many choices of comparable sizes that I like over the Voyager.

In short, I like the Voyager for what it is. I've used mine a bit and plan on cobbling together a 45 degree belt sheath since I hate the pocket clip and don't like how much space it takes up in my pocket. Still a worthy and hard use knife, but it doesn't really blow my skirt up.

I don't like the pocket clips on the Voyager being molded with the handle. They are not replaceable if they crack and break off.

A cheap and sturdy clip from somewhere like USAknifemaker could work as a replacement, and if it doesn't fit the existing hole pattern, the aluminum liners are easy enough to drill and tap.

There is no hole pattern. It's all one molded piece. I'm referring to the ones I bought in the late 80's.

Ah got it. At first I thought you meant how the clips on the new ones were bent to the same angle as the bent handles so that a right side clip won't go on the left side of the knife and vice versa.

If they had kept the original handle shape, or something similar, I'd be inclined to agree. But that handle..no thanks.

That must be why I've owned exactly zero of them and probably never will. I do agree that it's a good knife for the price though, if that kind of knife is what you want/need. Not for me though.
