The Competition Finish Is Gone . . . . . .

The Competition Finish was meant to be just what it said it was, a "competition grade finish".

It was not supposed to be "pretty" or "perfect" and although I believe we had made that quite clear, there seemed to be way too much confusion.

We received so many returns for machine marks and other marks left behind during the production process that the added time in refinishing the blades to meet the customer's expectations made it way too costly to continue.

Hope that helps,

Jerry :D

While I'm still totally bummed, I understand and respect your guys' decision to discontinue it.

I understand Busse's decision as well, and probably would have made the same one. BUT... I can't help but be disappointed. The Competition Finish was one that I have always appreciated and hoped to see continuously offered. Its too bad that so many people didn't take the time to completely understand what they were purchasing. And thanks to those few, it is now ruined for everyone.

I smell the perfect opportunity for a limited run of something awesome for those who understand CF.

Well, I probably didn't help this situation. I got a tglb with orange black g10 that was beautiful, almost looked satin. Then I got two more and at the rear of both, it looked like dremel tool had rolled across the back. So I sent some emails asking about it. I guess the first one spoiled me with perfection, and I forgot that comp finish was rough at times. Oh well, now they are even more collectors items :)

Competition finish Test Team MOAB II. A two handed handle, and a foot longer. I want to see Rob using one to butter his toast....

Perhaps if I signed a waiver?.........

It actually upsets me, that some people are this unintelligent. I really like the rough machine marks on my TGLB. I almost pulled the trigger on an ABMCG last night, and was going to email about the CF. Crapple sauce.

EDIT: CAN YOU JUST ADD A WAIVER WITH AN E-SIGNATURE SO THOSE OF US WHO UNDERSTAND THE FINISH CAN STILL GET IT??? :D

I really like the tool/character marks on my comp finish blades. Makes them look unique. And convex edges are just amazing.

Uh...I'm gonna want the comp finish...pretty ain't my thing...hard work is...machine marks add more character than that wrinkle finish...now I have to look at the seconday market to get my Busse fix...:grumpy:

I loved the rough and tumble look. I loved the irregularities as it made them very unique. Hope to see them again in the future.

The only machine marks on mine are on the primary bevel but the rest of the knife is pretty smooth and satiny. I have seen a few CF TGLB's that did have some machine marks on other parts of the blade though and tbh if I had got another TGLB that had those marks like you described, I'd be tempted to send it back myself because my current CF TGLB looks so nice.

Anyways the initial shock of the CF being discontinued has worn off a little. As much as I wanted to get a 2nd TGLB with black/tan G10 handles and CF, a black canvas and Tanker finished TGLB never goes out of style.

Comp finish blades should be offered "as is". Should prevent the misunderstandings.

I have a feeling norcalblacktail is going to get a LOT of business soon!!! Glad I got my e-mail into him yesterday!!!

Sorry to hear about the confusion being the root of this decision, but if it helps reduce the load to get more knives out faster, I can live with it...

AND because we have other options for this type of finish with one of those being an outstanding BF member!!!

Hey... on the up note, those of you who got the Comp Finish for your users....Those INSTANTLY became collectors items now!!!

The "problem" is that Busse's customer service is TOO good, in that they want the customer to be happy with their purchase, even if it is the case that they have got EXACTLY what they purchased but are not happy with it. Yes I would love to see a "CF Waver Program" ;) but you also need to see it from Jerry's end, the lifetime warranty that is transferable, you just KNOW someone will but a CF blade on the secondary market (Wavered or not) and have an issue with something.....Busse being Busse will want to make it right for them and so...the cycle starts again (albeit less but still work that can be directed into other projects).

This or if the person is a picky SOB (much like myself admittedly) and sends their CF blade back to have machine marks removed, Busse could/should charge them for it.

I'm well aware the Competition finish was never supposed to be perfect like satin but I have seen some CF TGLB's that certainly looked almost satin so I can understand if someone got their knife and it had more machine marks on it than "normal" why they would be a little disappointed however I also understand that Busse is a business and if I were to send my knife back for cosmetic reasons and nothing else, I wouldn't have a problem paying a fee for their time and work. I think that would be fair.

It would be cool if Jerry started offering stone washed blades in the future.
