The Competition Finish Is Gone . . . . . .

That's too bad, I really like the grittier look my CF TGLB has; it just begs to be used rather than to sit on a shelf. The reasoning behind it is more than fair, although its frustrating there are folks who don't get the point of what CF was in the first place. Machine marks just add to the character of the blade. On that note, this thread is seriously lacking in CF pics.

Perhaps if I signed a waiver?.........

Thats what I was thinking as I read through the thread. A waiver! I know it kind of sounds funny.
Didn't you have to call and ask for the CF?
CF to me is the perfect user blade.

All that being said......what do I know. Jerrys the man. Busse has done pretty dang good so far.
I will never leave you Busse.......Me and you baby! We can make together! We don't need CF, we have each other.

The Competition Finish was meant to be just what it said it was, a "competition grade finish".

It was not supposed to be "pretty" or "perfect" and although I believe we had made that quite clear, there seemed to be way too much confusion.

We received so many returns for machine marks and other marks left behind during the production process that the added time in refinishing the blades to meet the customer's expectations made it way too costly to continue.

Hope that helps,

Jerry :D

Aw man.... back to strippers for me I guess.

You'll note that the competition finish is no longer an option on our new website.

There may be some special offers or Ganzaaaas in the future where it shows up again, but it is gone for now.

Let's Drink!!!

Grrrrrrrrrrrr

Thank goodness I ordered my TGLB before this happened, otherwise I would have had to just have the handles changed on the one I have and the hubby would have had to order his own with coating! I shall miss you CF, deeply.

So we can order Arctic White but no competition finish?

Something sounds backwards here

Unfortunate, but undertandable following Jerry's explanation.

Maybe the pics of the good looking CF blades that were posted here set up unreasonable expectations among some customers? CF was never an official finsih, listed on the site. It was for the cognescenti, the real fans, One wonders if Busse had posted pics of the range of variation that was possible with the CF, with some of the more fugly examples, if that might have tempered the demand.

Yeah, I'm guessing that's about what it amounts to but I'd also wager a guess that many people wouldn't mind paying a little bit more for it?

When I ordered my TGLB over the phone I was told it was no additional cost because they are skipping a step finishing the blade. I'm bummed but, I'm guessing it's because they are selling a satin version. I know there are a number of hogs like me that like them naked with tool marks... We'll just have to strip them ourselves. Thumbs up for all the strippers!!!

I wonder where the tooling marks were on the ones that were complained about. On my TGLB, the spine, top and bottom guard, and a little bit of the butt had rough spots and weren't the even dcbb like finish on most of those areas but I liked that. I knew CF was INFI as is and not finished. In fact, I was surprised how good it looked overall.

edit:
You can see the difference between the CF and satin finishes on the tops of these knives although the rough marks don't show here.

edit#2:
Here's CF and Satin on the SAR3

and CF and DCBB on the Pork Shank

Thats unfortunate. The recent CF knives from blade show (TG-M & NMSFNOs) had some of the most wicked edges I have seen on any busse of recent memory. Those who complained unlikely realized that part though :D

For the record, this Hog LOVES the CF and any chatter marks that go along with em

super unfortunate.

really the best finish for a user.

I'd sign waiver re: the finish for sure.
