The CRK Anticipation Thread - Show Your 'Inbound's!

Sweet. Nice Pickup. That is a nice one. I was looking at it as well. To me it looked more like Bocote than cocobolo just by the grain.

I thought that, but it's a bit dark and red for Bocote. Still possible, though. I hope someone at CRK can tell me. I'm hoping it really is Cocobolo, because I want to carry this one.

Do a google search of CRK cocobolo mnandi. You will see several that have the Bocote-like grain that are cocobolo. You will see one from a dealer, on my search the 2nd pic. Very close to the color and grain of the one you have inbound.

I'm going to be up all night staring at those pics!

If you mean that one with Ladder, it could pass for mine if it were a plain blade. And then there's this one, which I traded away recently. If it were either an old style, or a plain blade it never would have left.

Just for comparison, this is what I see as the typical Bocote color, lighter and more yellow. (my knife, not my pic)

Yep, Bocote is usually more of an oak color, though I have seen it slightly reddish. I believe the one you have incomming though is cocobolo, it's just a much lighter cocobolo than we normally see that is very red. Nice score. Both mnandi I have are the new style. Certainly wish I still had some of the old style ones that I used to have. Had several cocobolo, Bocote, camel Thorne, iron wood. Ugh.....lol

I believe it is too, that's why I went for it. Cocobolo is such a good choice for carry with it's natural water resistance. I know what you mean about missing some. One I wish I could call back is a lefty with Cocobolo, even redder than this one. It's a newer version, but would have given me my 4th righty-lefty pair of Mnandis.

I just have a gabon Ebony plain and a cocobolo Damascus. For awhile I did not have any mnandi, but got these 2 in a short time span. You just don't see the old style too much anymore. Remember when they were everywhere for $300. Now we pay much more than that.

You just don't know how many times I've stumbled across an old Exchange thread where something was sitting there through price drops or just languishing, and wished I had a time machine and could go back and snag it at the first listed price.

I'd love to see your Mnandis. The arrival of this one will put me at 21 Mnandis, most of which are old style. I'm trying to get one from each year, and am currently missing 2007, 2010, and 2013. I also need a 2016, but I'm holding out for one of the new woods.

I know that this is the "anticipation" thread. Well I have been "anticipating" this day! And it finally happened!
I finally got my little Umfaan back from Anne & company at the mother ship. Ain't she purty!

This amazing little knife came to me sans birthday card but in really good shape except for a tiny little scuff on one of her scales and a bedraggled lanyard. But now, thanks to the amazing people of CRK, she is all cleaned up and ready for the world to see! While at the spa she even got a fresh hairdo, (a lanyard for those uninitiated in the lingo of Umfaan[emoji51])

Her blade was pristine and didn't need anything, but thanks to the re-issued birthday card, I was reminded that it was BG-42 with it's amazing Rockwell rating of 60-61!

So her she is with her big brother!

First family photo!

Isn't she cute! And they were even able to get me an Umfaan sheath! I have never seen one before so I am not sure if it is like the original issue sheaths. Perhaps someone a little older and a lot wiser (hint hint [emoji57]) can tell me.

Thanks to ice_man for hooking me up with the big brother Zig Zag! (You would think that anyone with "Z" as a moniker would want to hold on to a Zig Zag [emoji16])

Now for a solo turn in the spotlight!

Sorry for the crappy iPhone pics. Sure wish I could shoot photos as good as some of you on here.

If anybody could give me a lead for a large in the Zig Zag pattern I would greatly appreciate it.

Wanting to buy or trade for African Blackwood with B&W zebra damascus.
As pictured above. Thanks for looking!

I finally pulled the trigger on the one I've been waiting for for quite a while. This is not a standard Micarta 21. This is the last Micarta 21 with a large polished blade that Blade HQ had in stock. It's a rare configuration and one I've lusted after forever. The polished blades are just that little bit better than the stonewashed ones in my opinion, being slightly longer, broader, and thinner behind the edge. This one is destined to become my primary EDC I am quite certain.

Finally, the ZigZag brothers are re-united! Congratulations again buddy for such a nice set! I was hoping to find the umfaan myself, but instead decided to let one of our own here complete the set. I do hope you find a Large one, I have not seen one myself but I am sure it exists.

If you actually look at the middle part of the graphics, it does have a "Z" on it. lol

Also, that was nice of CRK to provide you with that umfaan sheath. I believe it's an original Umfaan sheath, but there's another design I saw posted somewhere.. The british tan color of that sheath is wonderful... :D

I just got an Umfaan myself. It's going to be a catch and release, I just wanted to see one for myself. They are SMALL!

MoonSong came in today.

Congrats on such a nice EDC purchase! I just completed an order with CRK for a Large 21 Polished blade w/ gold hardware, and it is on its way now! I look forward to handling the new packaging, and of course, new knife, upon arrival.

I haven't seen anything about the polished blades being any larger, but my first polished CRK did have that optical effect. If you don't mind, if there is a source of this info I've missed, I would very much appreciate a link or direction to find it.

Cheers!

That's news to me as well....!!!
