The CRK Anticipation Thread - Show Your 'Inbound's!

^
I haven't seen on my Ti's any discoloration or haze as you mention, but I'm more curious about you taking this knife apart. It's the one CRK I haven't disassembled. Reason being the CRK factory warns against it because of the ball bearing system used. Was it fairly easy? Did you have to loc-tite it when reassembly was complete? This is probably my next purchase. Very nice.

I wouldn't do it again; it was a pain in the a••, I didn't know the factory warns against doing it, but it came with three wrenches so I assumed it was ok to do it; the most problematic thing was the stop pin, it's pressed fit in there so only one scale came off; I didn't use lock tite, just tightened the screws. I should have taken pictures but there is another thread by member kidcongo called 'let's talk Ti-Lock-A photo essay' where he shows the internals of the knife, look it up it's pretty cool.

I forgot to post this, dang, I love this knife. I also have a question, has any of you noticed the haze that develops on the handles? It is not very obvious, it's almost like the titanium oxidized, but I have seen it on three different tilocks before, it bugged me so I polished this and the other one I got, they both shine now, I took it apart and did the polishing with Simichrome Polish, it worked like magic. I forgot to take pictures before I did it though. Oh, and I was careful not to touch the blue anodized lock bar, otherwise the polish would take the color off, any thoughts about that? I know this is not the place to ask that, maybe, but I'm already writing and I'm lazy right now:)

There's a video on YouTube of a guy that, like me, preferred something other than the very light stonewash on the handles. He anodized the the handle blue to match the strap, stonewashed it all, and anodized the rest of it a light bronze. There was more to it then that but in the end he ended up with a blue clip and blue logos then the rest of it was a nice bronze color.

Not quite an inbound since it's on layaway but hopefully by next week it'll be in my hands. I really didn't like the Ti-Lock the first half dozen times I played with it but I tried a local guys Ti-Lock that was broken in and they're smooooth and very unique once you get the hang of it.

This sounds awesome, I'm going to search for that video. I cannot imagine how cool that would look.

Yeah, I think people get turned off by not being able to flick it open; I have no problems at all with it, like I said before the tilock is the one that started my interest in CRK knives but the one always out of my reach, now I have both versions and I'm keeping them both, I going to use the regular and just admire the blue steam. After you get it let me know if you find that haze I mentioned; I bought one from a dealer and sent it back because of this issue only to find out every one I have seen has it. When I polished the slabs the rag came out black, so I know it was oxidized.

Which is normal for some raw metals, like aluminum and brass, but I never expected titanium to do it; and that just shows my ignorance about metallurgy :)

I got the cf inlay large 21 in the picture yesterday and that's a light stonewash. I've already noticed how easily it mucks up and I would really prefer the normal blasted titanium. I'm assuming it'll be the same thing with the Ti-Lock. That and the fact the finish is a tad slippery are the only downfalls I can think of and I'm seriously considering having my 21 blasted if possible and anodizing or blasting the Ti-Lock when I get it.

I think the video is called CRK Ti-Lock Modification or something like that.

Yeah the tilock is kind of slick. If you end up anodizing the tilock show us a picture, I'm very curious about that.
And thanks for the video tip.

Hey dubya, I just watched that video you mention, man that looks pretty cool indeed; he says it took him hours to do it, I would think the knife looks a lot better in real life though. Thank you for the tip.

I'm really not sure so take this with a grain of salt but after watching the old CRK shop tour vids (not the bladehq ones), it doesn't look like it's a super expensive process to anodize titanium. There's a clip of Lisa doing a few handles and it looks like a volt regulator with a cool whip containers filled with water and with some research and a little money it looks very doable. Again, I really don't know but from the video it looks like a fairly simple and cheap process.

I think you're correct, shouldn't be too expensive. I just realized I caused us to get off the main topic of the thread a little bit, I apologize, I can't seem to keep my mouth shut, but it was done with good intentions. I'll post my questions somewhere else. Thanks for your input though. ;)

I have two coming!! More pics to follow once I receive them :D! The first one is a used Inkosi due tomorrow (Monday):

I am really stoked about the second one - an Inyoni! I probably paid too much, but I wanted one of these in the worse way. (Some water damage on the box....oh well.) Due next Monday but i am assuming it will be next week:

Oh boy! I am bedazzled to say the least, this is the first time I see an Inyoni; I had no idea those existed! What a nice blade, I think you scored on that one man; I'm not going to ask how much it was, but I would think it's worth it because of being so rare, at least to me it is. seriously I think that's a keeper for sure. Thanks for posting these pictures, I just learned something new. :). What is the steel?

Chris Reeve probably has made stuff no one knows about and keeps it in his family collection, I'm thinking.

The more I look at the Inkosi the more it's growing on me, let me know how you like it, I'm curious; it really looks like a shrunk 25

I will. Many have compared it to the 25.....(I corrected my earlier response to make sense. I'm still giddy about the Inyoni.)

Inkosi arrived today! I threw on a quick navy blue lanyard - I don't really like but it does look better in person (and it certainly isn't the purple showing in the pictures). I will be replacing it with a leather one soon.

That's very cool, I actually like the purple, if it was purple; what do you think about the groove in the tang of the blade, does it make a difference? I never noticed any movement of the lock bar on my 25s or umnumzaan; but it is definitely an innovation, in typical CRK fashion; did I mention I love your pictures?:)

Thanks! I'm not sure what difference the groove is making but there is definitely no movement. A very solid knife. Of course I've only had it a few hours. My first impression is that it is stout enough to handle a heavy duty job but that you would be better off with a bigger knife if available for those heavier duty tasks from a grip point of view. It would be less intrusive when carrying such as in an office environment or wearing light duty shorts while drinking beer on the deck.....
