The "End All" Knife

Oh, I've said, "Man, I think I'm done buying knives. This one is amazing! Why would I need another one?" more than a few times over the years. 🤣

Sometimes I'll go six months or a year without thinking about buying a knife, but the itch always returns. I've come to view it as part of the hobby.
That itch

I could quit anytime ! 🤥

Really , yeah I could . 😇

Trouble is, I would immediately double down on a bunch of other, far worse, addictions . 😒

Long as I keep to my very modest budget , the knife thing is probably the least evil hobby , possible for me . 🤗
Doc of what?

I used to think that there was a perfect knife out there for me. Now I realize that I will never find it so now it is more like what really inspired me to reach for my wallet kind of knife.

A friend where I use to work said he drank a pint of brake fluid every day.
I said are you crazy? that stuff will kill you!
He said, "I can stop anytime"

BUT unlike my friend, I am afraid that knife buying is not as easy to quit, ask me how I know...;)

For me, the buying and trying new designs, steels, lock types, handle materials, etc, is the fun. Saying “this is my last knife” feels a little like a golfer saying “this is the last course I’m ever going to play!”

Yea, I might have to pick one up to see what the hype is about, I am a big Spyderco fan, but I have lately been wrestling with the Ti handle addiction.
Do westle my friend. I regret every knife I gave away or lost or sold. Stuff from over 40 years of collecting and enjoying. I’ve been foolish. Trying to remedy that ;-)

Once I found the chris reeve 21’s years ago, I knew I had found “the” knife for me.

Since then I’ve built up quite the collection, probably about 15 different models of 21’s…both large and smalls. (Along with a few zaans of course)

must have gotten one of my first 10 years ago, if not more and still carry it today along with the others.

The 21 has been the only knife that has been a constant, when I open my collection of knives up, never do I find myself thinking about selling any of them, however over the years I’ve sold tons of benchmades off, spydercos … even striders, and hinderers.

I still have a decent collection of other knives, but when I need a serious, reliable, yet simple knife I reach for my 21’s. (Size according to task at hand)

I’m not saying I don’t buy any new knives. I sure do! But never with the intention / anticipation or even the thought of it becoming my end all be all knife.

I think the 21 is that for me… been over a decade and I’ve never wanted for more out of a knife.

With all of that said, lately the past year or two I’ve seen just how useful a multi tool is… much more so than a knife.

Today I find myself prioritizing a multi tool over a knife… it’s not as fun to play with, but can help get so many more things done that a knife just can’t for only a few ounces more weight.

Jens Mofo I waited 7 years to procure. I can die happy.

Guy at work who likes knives enough for me to share with him what I’m carrying for the day recently told me I have a problem.

“Hello, my name is Terry and I’m a knif-a-holic”
Just today my Captain, said dang dude how do you have multiple new knives to show me every drill weekend! 😂
