The Endura Thread

I have the zdp 189 and like it a lot. It’s backlock is steadier than my Police 4 which has developed some rock.

I’d like to see the Spyderco clip point as an option to the Endura’s normal drop. P4 blade shape on the Endura.

Sorry for the other knives - only pic I have at present.

A pair of black Gen 1 VG10 Endura clip-its (the model w/the molded plastic clips built into the FRN scale) w/a PS and S blade that I bought in the 90's were 2 of the 1st Spydercos that I ever owned.

The others were a PE Spydercard (sold) and a black FRN Merlin hawkbill (that I still own). Yes, I know. An odd assortment of Spyders to start off with.

Found a Gen 1 VG10 PE version and now have a matched black 3 knife Gen 1 Endura VG10 FRN clip it set. Ended up w/an extra PE version that was resharpened by Spyderco that I can use as an EDC, which got replaced when I found a better one 4sale on EB. So, I've actually got 4 of these knives.

These vintage Enduras along w/a set of Gen 2 S/S Police (PE, PS & S), black micarta Calypsos (PE & S), black LW FRN Goddards (P & PS) and micarta Smiths (P & S) are among the favorite "vintage" knives in my collection.

Here are the Enduras. The top one is the one that I use as an EDC that was sharpened (it's 1/16th inch shorter as a result) and its markings do not exactly match the others either.

My current Endura and Stretch both developed lock rock after only moderate use. My old Endura with a spear point never developed lock rock after several years of outdoor use. The current flat ground Endura is still functional, but with the lock rock it just doesn t feel as high quality as my old one. I don t carry it much anymore. Same with the Stretch.

I used to find the Endura a little big, but lately I’ve really been enjoying this one!
Funny how that is . . . for a while a Case Trapper felt like a "big knife" then the Endura did . After carrying the Military and the Police the Endura starts to seem like a "nice little knife" :)

Some times the Endura likes a little company though; especially the ZDP-189 which doesn't like wire ties (can chip). Hence the nippers ( I use the nippers all day long at work / this isn't my sunday go to meeting rig).

Maybe its a coincidence but I have had a couple FFG enduras and all of them developed vertical play after minimal use as well. I sold both of them. Right now I have two saber ground Enduras and a pacific Salt, all three have been used extensively and none have any play at all. The pac salt is probably the best lock up of all, I cant even wrench any play in it. Im a little nervous about my P4 LW developing play because if I hold it near the tip and check it I get a little click and some movement. I hope not, I pretty much never carry a blade again after it develops vertical play.

But anyway I do love the Endura!

I was thinking the endura would be a bit to big for me. I like the delica. And my best friend liked my delica so much he had me hunt him out a endura here on the forums. ( because he wants a larger knife for yard work). I scored him one the other day. Now I'm thinking I may have prejudged the endura so as he has been in posession on my delica now for over 3 weeks I'm gonna keep his endura when I shows up for a week and see if I like it. And might have to find me one of my own. I do like the platform.

All you need to do is EDC a Police 4 for a while. After that I guarrantee you will no longer feel any spyderco being too big.

I'll edc the endura for a week before I give it over. But to be honest I'm afraid to. If it's all of what I've been told I'll be looking for one in zdp189 for myself. And I don't have time for that right now. Still have 2 more CRK to pick up before I add anymore new knives to the list.

Enjoy that teal S30v.

The K390 should be a big draw. Glad it’s not a sprint. My gut tells me it will replace the ZDP-189 in a year or two. They are the same price. I do like my ZDP Endura.

Well, I finally broke down today and purchased my first Endura, I picked ZDP-189.

I already have K390 in a PM2, a Ladybug, and now on pre-order in what will be my 2nd Delica.

I guess the possibility of the ZDP-189 Endura being discontinued was enough to push me over the edge.

I only have ZDP-189 in a Dragonfly and because if it, I know that I want more.
