The ESKABAR is here!

i got mine the other day and ive had it in the woods twice.i absolutely love the knife but i hate the way the sheath rattles.so i just put it in my bk-11 sheath when i carry it.it has no rattle at all now.

Now I have to get this knife! The izula scales look great! Thanks for the pics everyone!

Been beatin' up on my ESKABAR sumpin' fierce. Its got about a quarter inch of the paint missing ont he belly, and is as dull as a butter knife. I took it with me to Kali, to do a job, so far, its whittle sticks, cut tape, cardboard, ceiling tiles (thats' what got the paint), and has been used everyday since I got it.

So far I have carried in an improvised shoulder rig, hori in the small of the back, hori front left at around 11 o'clock, and pocket carried. I didn't like it in any of those locations. I gotta come up with a sheath that will work for me.

SOB, kept getting caught on things I was avoiding. Even got pulled out once. 11 O'clock, kept getting caught on my shirt as I resheathed it, and in the pocket, it just kept getting caught sideways in the there. I'm thinking about an IWB for the strong side right, vert carry, either kydex or leather. Leather would be more comfortable, but sweat will deterioriate the leather, kydex is "hard" and I would need to curve it a bit to fit. I just simply can't carry anything around my neck, I don't even like my compass around my neck. Oh, well, I'll have something worked out soon. Thanks to all. Moose

I don't have pics cuz my camera is busted from a bruiser of a kayak/camping outing, but I received my ESKABAR and got it set up for the most part. I've cord wrapped the handle and reprofiled the edge, and I'm thinking about stripping the coating and putting a patina on it just like my Izula...

Compared the my Izula, my first impressions of the ESKABAR are that it is a better cutter than my Izula, although the Izula still feels better in hand to me. The ESKABAR is a little blade heavy, and although I don't think I'd ever go this route with my Izula, I think the ESKABAR would probably be more comfortable with scales.

The ESKABAR has the same thickness as the Izula, but it has a slightly higher blade height which gives it a little bit better edge geometry for slicing. I think it outperforms the Izula a little bit in that category.

Now, I haven't had it more than a few days now and just used it for EDC the first time today, but so far I think my Izula has a better feel for EDC than my ESKABAR. I just love that little Izula... I like the bigger blade on the ESKABAR, but it might be a little bigger than it needs to be for a knife it's size.

Some of you Becker Necker die hards won't agree with me on that one, but it's just my opinion.

I like em both, and I'm going to give the ESKABAR a few more workouts before I make up my mind completely...

This just opened the door to esee and kabar. I wonder if they will colabarate in the future. I see a kabarc-3 coming hahahahahahaha! Just keep those becker handles and that small v-grind off.

Teased! Called home heard I had a package waiting....Rushed home........it was the micarta scales for the BK14.....just so wrong.:grumpy: they are just sitting there so lonely. Guess ill get it tomorrow.

wife called me Tuesday to let me know I had a box waiting - knowing that I wouldn't be home until tonight...
talk about a tease!

they're here, one is wrapped already -- love the blade shape as much as I thought I would!

Rushed home last night, had the EsKaBar waiting.....got the Izula scales the night before, slapped them all together (took a few minutes) and BAM!

The handle is much better IMHO and I will be using this much more than the BK11. Ill be looking at some Rit Dye today to change the Micarta around.

Amazing what a new handle and some scales do. I swapped my 11 case with my 14 case and they only rattle a little....bizarre.

Can someone please post a better comparison shot of the Izula and the ESKABAR? The handle's supposed to be longer than the Izula's right? Handle length was the only reason I sold my Izula, but I've got big hands. Thanks.

better than the one above? what are you looking for?

the handles afaik are the same. the same micarta 99% fits too. see the pictures above.

I've read that the Eskabar's handle is longer than the Izula's, yet in other places I've read it's the same. In those pics it appears it would be the same. If that's the case I'll wait for the Izula II....if I gotta. :)

comparing my izula and eskabar, i can attest to the fact that their handles are the same length.

I got my sights set on a couple of Eskabars ,but as Toooj said in another thread, they are working on better sheaths ( curvature to fit the blade, as opposed to the tanto-shape) ,so I may have to wait a while till the second crop comes :(

The BK 11 has been my EDC for a while now ,but I have no use at all for the pommel bottle opener/pry opening. It kinda digs in my hand when I cup-grip the end of the knife. I would like the 14 a whole lot better.

I believe you would, and don't let the sheath scare you off, get one now, and get another when the sheath comes out. This guy is awesome, don't wait. Moose

Damn, looks like I gotta wait for the Izula2 or spring for a Tops MilSpie3, which I just found today and am liking its looks. Thanks for the info.

Will there be a San Mai version of the Eskabar like there was of the BK11?

Moose - be careful in Kali. Any size fixed blade is illegal to carry concealed, even if only a little concealed. And they take that one seriously.
