those aren't part of the place settings, they are brought out with the course. The BK-9 is on the hip so you don't accidentally stab someone while buttering your bread.

I have never stabbed someone "on accident" - especially not while buttering bread.

Well maybe the older ones were thinner? heck i dont know man.. It is WEIRD.

the original RTAK II was 3/16" 1095. the current ones are 1/4" 5160.

IBTL.

I stab myself on accident all the time.

And thanks man for the info, I just finished reading this..... copied and pasted from somewhere else....

I was intrested in RTAK-II 16 1/2" long, 3/16" thick and micarta grip "survival" type knife (like I need another one) until I looked at some reviews on youtube. The RTAK-II was made with 1095 carbon steel during the first run and now being offered in 5160 steel. The 1095 series were failing when batonning, chopping and hacking of wood. Blades either snapped or big pieces of the cutting edge would break off.

Some would claim these knives were abused but I'd disagree for this type of knife. I think Ontario realized the issues of their 1095 series and that's why they changed to 5160. Ontario (to their credit) has replaced said knives without any problems. Heat treat? metallurgic composition? Who knows what the issue was?

I'm just giving the heads up to anyone intrested in the RTAK-II to pay attention to the model they pick up and make sure it's the updated 5160 series. If you own the 1095 and haven't put it through some hard use you may not want to rely on it solely until it has proven itself for your needs. My need for a survival knife is bushcraft, defense and maybe even a digging tool. Like firearms your tools and equiptment need to be tested before you will need it.

No worries WW, of they had any idea how many times that certain discount tool supply store was mentioned over here in Becker, they'd fall out and die..

One would've thought they were supporting members

I never have "on accident" either. However, I also have never tried using a 9 at a standard dinner party. I almost think I would have to.

I hate St. Louis. Now that I'm hungry, there is nothing open to get food. Not even the grocery store. Stupid frickin' city.

There have been several, one is a depot for despots, one is the lowest of the lowes, then there was the LA Harbor.

And just to complete the solitary snark... Had to get 5 in a row.

Unless someone steps in between the 4th and 5th snark. Stupid time limit on snarking.

I really just want some carrots, and ranch.

Or some cereal and chocolate milk.

ORRRR some spanikopita and saganaki.
