The favorite hand gun thread

My favorite handgun is the one within reach, the others are pretty much useless. :)

Lolz. I wonder how many "kabooms" have actually happened- that couldn't be attributed to double-charged handloads or totally leaded-up barrels. My guess is "not many".
"Kabooms" are what happen when you tell people that their guns are indestructible, and never need to be cleaned.

Dude...People keep telling me this is going to happen to my G23.

Are most of those "people" who tell you this, employees of other gun manufacturers who's products lag far, far behind Glock sales?:D

I saw a Kaboom caused by exactly that- Double Tap 10MM ammo in a glock. The cartridge failed and the slide ejector was blown out. My buddy got a new ejector, compliments of Double Tap ammo from Glock, and he has never had an issue.

I have to say that I was rather impressed with the way that the gun took the blast.

Here's my take on the subject...

I'm not sure how many hundreds of thousands (millions maybe?) of Glocks that are floating around but they have sooooo more guns in civi and LE hands than anyone else. With any mechanical device that's mass produced there are some that are bound to fail....its Murphy's law. You also cant rule out problems with factory ammo or someone not paying attention when reloading. Dont forget about other ammo problems like hang fires and what not...Other people will blame KB problems on the "unsupported chamber in .40 Glocks" and not even look at different options of why something may have happened.

Could some of it be the guns fault? maybe. Will that stop me from carrying my Glock 23? Hell no!

I've had my gun for 7 years now and the only problem I had was a recoil spring assembly that needed to be replaced (I think it was a whole $5). I cant trust my Glock to go bang and thats what I need.

I never leave home without this Maxpedition bag, or Sig 229 .40cal is on my hip

I love the 14 round mag + one in the chamber = 15 rounds :D

I love my Ruger Security Six, .357mag./.38 spl. 6" barrel. The bluing is worn and it still wares its original wood grips but i'm decent at hitting with it. I also have a Buck Mark .22 nice gun but I dislike the "classic 1911" grip bump (at the base of the grip). and a SIG P226 in 9mm which I picked up used, in favor of a fairly new, used G22. and I have an XD-45 wearing a Streamlight TLR-1, 14 rnds of .45 love, perfect for what goes bump in the night IMO.

I've got two 1911's, my series 70 Colt being my favorite, but I'm looking at the Springfield XD .45. or .40 cal.
How did they do vs the Glocks ?
I've read they are just as good or better.

Of the two, I prefer the XD. It's single action trigger is what does it for me. If it's an extra glove compartment gun or stashed somewhere else, I'd go with Glock.

As I mentioned, I swear by 1911's, but a Glock has it's place for me. i sold all of mine, but might get a Glock 21 or a Sig with a light to keep if I take a bag with me or keep in my car, in addition to the SIS I carry.

For carry, of the two, I'd go with the XD because of the trigger. Just my preference.
