The favorite hand gun thread

I am a Smith & Wesson Revolver Fan and my favorite are the L-Frame .357 Mag. guns (586, 686, L-Comp). I also am fond of my little Seecamp .32.

Mine are the HK USP and it's little brother. LOVE these. I have been told that for home security that you can't beat the reliability of a revolver just because of the lower number of moving parts. Hmmmmmmm makes sense but I still like the HK's.

No pics, but my favorites are a Glock 21 and an S&W 629.

I started out with a Ruger P90, and it was a hammer, never a failure, and would outshoot most high-end 1911s -- phenominal accuracy. I went to the Glock because of the preponderance of multiple attackers in recent times. I'd rather have 14 rounds of .45 than 8.

The S&W is a 4" model, and is also very accurate, and the .44 Maggie puts down the hogs just great.

I had an HK USP45c about eight years ago. I hated it. The bore was too high, the trigger which I felt I could live with in the shop was el crapola at the range. The ownership group on the internet made Glock fans look tame. The odyssey of getting the variant changed to variant nine was a world class pain in the ass and to top it all, the accessory rail was proprietary back then. It was truly the heyday of HKs semi-official motto for mere civilians: H&K--Because You Suck and We Hate You.

So I wrote about it.

It's a hot night. The mind races. A 17 hour flight to La Paz is etched in red traces on my eyeballs. I had packed my HK USP .40S&W with its captured recoil buffer system and Peters Stahlish lock up. I had two of its priceless magazines in a futuristic custom Bladetech retention system. Sweat trickles down the small of my back, saturating my black lock-knit HK polo shirt and threatens to soak my Royal Robbins Khaki travel pants. Good thing I am carrying strong-side rather than the tactically incorrect small-of-back. My feet feel resilient in my Himalayan walking shoes. I thumb the decocker--or is it the safety? I can never tell and in the thin air I vow once again to never admit to anyone it might bother me.

Against a haze of air starved bugs and the cacaphony of a strange tongue clawing its way into the oxygenless atmosphere, I feel the Hostile Environment finish on the lever of the USP where I have it hidden from prying eyes. I try to reassure myself about my beyond top secret assignment. I feel the stippled black polymer--never call it plastic--and it feels like money--or at least like a credit card chewed upon by a teething kitten.

Nevertheless I feel better now. If I ever have to shoot from the bowels of an outhouse, the guts of a fish processing ship, Pamela Anderson's boudoir--any repellant place at all--I have been reassured by the Company and literally thousands of internet street pros that I carry the final say in handguns. Tension is in the air, maybe I will torture my pistol before the dawn breaks. Maybe I will be tortured myself. . . .

Thirty hours later, lost near the Rio Camblaya following the coup attempt, a welcoming smile. Thank God she spotted the epaulettes on the Norwegian ice-fishing vest concealing my USP. I climb aboard the helo on my way to my next exotic assignment, my HK having proven itself in "combat" once again without ever firing a shot in anger. . . .

The World of Compromise Uncompromisingly cries out to my inner poseur. . . beckoning to me to get onto the internet and tell the rest of the inferior shooting world about the superiority of my sidearm and myself.

j/k;)

That was great Boats, good story.
I used to have H&K compacts, what was I thinking when I switched back to Glocks? Maybe a really nice watch will balance it back out.;)

Well, I have tried many other guns, and the HK USP by far is the best shot group every time. I do have many guns that I like more, I.E. the Walter P-99. I just can't get the shot group that small on these. In time my choice will change but for right now it's HK... hit target.... others might not

edit: not to nit-pick but it sounds like you were just bashing HK because it wasn't right for you. I think IMHO that a gun is like a knife, if it doesn't fit "you" then you think it's crap, but if you like it it's the best thing since sliced bread. If you have a gun that you like then "thats it" you don't need anything else. If you don't like it then move on.

edit......er... I don't follow the HK community so if they are mostly posers so be it. I have never been a fan of glocks but I know many people that would bet ther lives on them. Just not for me.

"If you can shoot it and hit the target without effort then that is the gun for you." nuff said

I shot a friend's .45 ACP H&K USP a couple days ago. Phenomenal handgun. Couldn't believe how well it shot. Stock, no mods, the USP shoots way better than I do. Deadnuts on target.

It took a little while to get used to the decocker though.

We put a couple hundred rounds through it--not one glitch. Now, we didn't throw it in the mud or grind it into the sand or perform any other torture tests, but it seemed like a solid weapon.

Gotta say I had a chance to shoot one at the range one day and had a similar experience. That HK was a remarkably good shooter.

My favorite for my carry and what I am most accurate at the range with is my springfield EMP in 9mm. Love the quality, the feel and how it shoots. Awsome pistol in my opinion

and for Camping/Fishing my S&W Performance Center 44 MAG. Although I am a wimp so its usually has 44 special rounds in it with a couple of snake shot CCI rounds

:D

First time that I shot a .44 MAG, I almost gave myself an uppercut to the nose. I can have quite a kick.
