I’ve been looking for a few months now for a list of shields, both drawings/photos and names. I know I’ve seen such a list somewhere online but can’t relocate it. So if anyone has seen it please let me know or post it here.
As far as I know 5K you are correct, the federal shield has a “central point “ both top and bottom. The shield without a top point is called a “badge” shield.
I’ve looked everywhere online, talked to many knowledgeable people, even got an old book from Knife Magazine that shows the different shields but no names to go with them.
GEC’s site only lists the shields they use and have renamed some like the gimp shield. They call it a “banner”
I’m still hoping to find such a list!

Dave, I've been trying various Google search terms that might find me some helpful info on knife shields. Today, I happened to stumble across an AAPK thread named "List of Pocketknife Shields" and I thought, "OK, this looks like what I'm after!" But it turned out to be a thread that YOU started there in November, asking for leads on such a list. I thought that was kind of amusing the way I'm going in circles.
But there was a later post (last month) in that thread that had a link that I thought was helpful to me:
https://chriscrawfordknives.com/pantographs/pantograph-templates/
The site is selling pantograph templates for pocketknife shields, and towards the bottom of the webpage, there are 136 images of templates for shields. Each image shows a silhouette of a shield and a photo of the template, and if I let my cursor "hover" over an image, a little textbox appears with a name for the shield and its dimensions. There are often several variations of a particular type of shield, say Federal, and the name given is usually just Federal 1 or Federal 2 etc.; sometimes there will be something more descriptive such as Long Federal or whatever. But I could see the similarities among all the 9 variations of shields listed as Federal, and also see how they differed from the group of Badge shield variations. (Of course, there's always the issue of how "authoritative"/"accurate" a given individual is regarding shield names.)
Don't know if you saw that link, Dave, but I found it very helpful, so thanks!

ETA: Click on one of the template images and a "whole screen" version opens, with label at bottom. Much easier to see!
