The First Five Years! GEC!!!

So if I follow, that knife was bought by a cop in Scotland, then found its way to charlie in canada,or am I missing parts to the story.
It went from Paul the Scot-Cop, (I sent him some #25s also - I wonder how he's doing??), to Will, then to an unstated American; then finally to Me (Charlie)!! Then Will offered Me the Tube!! Ha Ha - quite a circular knife story!! 🤣

That's a wild interesting story.

Please show us yours, 2006 to 2011!! Dare we call them Old GECs?? Probably Early is a better term!!
I've been following this thread from the beginning, but haven't seen an answer to the following question, so here it is. Why are we talking about the specific five years? What happened or changed in 2011 with GEC?

Nice collection there 😎👌🏿 Did GEC not stamp the year on the blade like they do now?
GEC has always stamped the year on the tangs together with the pattern No. See their website for explanation.

Here from 2006-17 The first knife had a blade delete so the year No. was on the other blade.

Alex.Y. Alex.Y. I'm sure Charlie can explain but I'd say it was to limit discussion to an era. During that era it was still possible for enthusiasts around the world to pick up a GEC with the luxury of being able to think it over for some time. The era saw a lot of new patterns introduced in a relatively short time and 2011 was the first year GEC supplied a Forum Knife. Thereafter, interest in GEC knives began to increase to what it is today for better or worse.

So, as I suspected, it is a suppositive era then? I just thought that maybe some drastic perturbations or changes happened in or after the 2011, which were not covered in David Anthony's book about GEC, simply because it was already released around that time.

I kind of thought that was the case, but Modoc ED Modoc ED said he thought they where all pre 2011, that’s why I asked
*my Beagle only have 182 stamped on one side, but 216 on the other. The full number is 182216, maybe that´s the case in his case?

Great idea for a thread.

Thought I had more 06-11s but I guess not. The good ol' days of browsing multiple sites, thinking it over for a few days (sometimes even months) and then making the purchase. If ya got'em, use'em.

The 73 sat on Collector Knives site for a while before I made the purchase. GEC ought to make some more liner locks.

A completely random choice, Alex!! I could have geared the thread toward more or less years, but I thought the first 1/4 to 1/3 of GEC's tenure on earth was discernible from these later years we are now in here!! 😁
A Jesuit teacher, in my first year of high school (1953) stated; "Accepting uncertainty is a large step indicating maturity!!" - Changed my life!!!😲;)

a most apt and diplomatic response, but as they say, the best was yet to come? i do look forward to the next five years thread then, as i dare say it might have been its golden years and the best of times from a collector's perspective.

There's already so much uncertainty in life that one just needs something he can be certain about. Well, at least I am certain that a GEC knife is a masterpiece work of traditional art. :)

Great Whittler, Bob!!!
I like your background also!!
Thanks Charlie! I bought the knife a few years back after being gifted a Case seahorse whittler. I wanted to own a split back and this one hit home. I love the ebony and the secondary clip blade. I would love to see GEC make a split back whittler with this same secondary configuration but with a sabre ground clip main like the one seen on the Schrade 804.

Love the artwork of the northwest coastal First Nations. Haida art is particularly attractive to me.
