While Bill did a lot of the initial work, he brought in cutlers from the start; and he has trained many people!!Did Mr. Howard make some or all of those knives himself in the early GEC days or did GEC employ cutlers from the start?
I like the Cigar Bands!! Nice LOA from Ken Daniels, Rick!!One more (for now). Sorry for so many pictures.

I find that very interesting. Do you have an opinion or thoughts on why, would be interested to hear your opinions.Modern carry (EDCers) often opts for lighter knives than our grandfathers
Probably as they had a harder more physical life style and less money.I find that very interesting. Do you have an opinion or thoughts on why, would be interested to hear your opinions.![]()

Leon I’ll chime in on this. My grandfather grew up on a rural farm in Ohio. I figure there was a lot of hard work done mostly by hand and having the tools to get it done was just a given. The tools needed to be robust and long lasting because as my grandparents used to say, “Money didn’t grow on trees” back then. I’ve also noticed that there’s Porch folks who also live in rural areas who routinely carry fixed blades along with larger folders. I’m a city boy and never carry large hunting knives but I still have a few from my Scouting years.I find that very interesting. Do you have an opinion or thoughts on why, would be interested to hear your opinions.![]()

Were the early GEC’s as hard to get as they are now?
