The Flea Market Mung Absolution Thread

Back in my day that Kephart wouldn't have had time to even load on the page!!!!!

Man that's a sweet knife!

Could someone please 'splain me "Magma," as seen with this current Flea Market offering:

Up for sale: Brand new - never used or carried.

RUNT : with Purple Haze magma over natural with Lime pinstripes, Tapered tang, convex 5/32, spalted A2 steel.

It looks like acrylic/phenolic and wood together, but I can't figure out how-- is the wood carved first, or is super burly/hole-y wood immersed in the chemical composition until hardened and cut into blocks, or is the artificial material on the surface only?

(How do the two materials stick together?)

SO MANY QUESTIONS.

I think I've watched a video on making this type of thing but I can't find it.

You're correct though. Acrylic poured into/onto wood with holes, cracks, burls, etc. and cut into blanks.

Although I dislike deep discounts because it seems to devalue the knives, we're working on me adopting my step daughter and need to pull some funds together to offset all the fun fees associated with it. If anything, the prices should go up from Fiddleback Fridays, WAS Wednesdays and Osprey sales to cover the "sharking fee" :D

Anyway, that's the reason for this ..

Temporary price drop mania for this week 2/13 to 2/17 only. (expires 5pm CT 2/17)

Thanks

Odaon has it right. Broken or left over pieces of wood are put in the mold and then the alumilite is poured on it to set, sometimes with sparkle powder or other materials mixed in.

Yes someone please buy it... it's a bit longer than I like to carry or else I would have... but I may fold soon...
