The Flea Market Mung Absolution Thread

Before I (further) annoy you fine Fiddlebackers with my follies: a question.

I've spent entirely too much time lurking in this forum (Thanks, pertinux!), soaking up all of the wonderful details of these fine knives, and now, it seems that I need a wonderful Fiddleback. However, funds are a bit lacking at the time. I have several desireable New In Tube Great Eastern Cutlery Traditionals that I would be willing to offer in trades (singularly, in combination, even "+cash"), but I'm not sure if the Flea Market allows such posting.

Surely, I've seen beautiful Fiddlebacks offered for trade for other Fiddlebacks, but I have not seen non-Fiddlebacks offered for trade, which makes me think that it is not allowed/in poor taste. The "For Trade" subforum has not worked for me in the past, so I was wondering if I could go a bit more to-the-source.

So, I ask: Yay or nay on non-Fiddleback fodder in the Flea Market?

(I searched "GEC" in the Flea Market and only exposed 3 posts, none of which were followed by pitchforks, but I wanted to be respectful to the fine folk of Fiddleback Forge and their fabulous followers.)

Posting about traditionals for Fiddlebacks would definitely be mung, unless of course you happen to have a #46 Northfield at which time you should contact me immediately.

Maybe?... Create a post in the for "For Trade" subform showing/describing what particular "GEC" models you have available for trade and what particular Fiddleback models you are interested in trading for and then posting a brief "Want to Trade for Fiddlebacks" post in the Fiddleback Flea market with a link to your original "For Trade"/Exchange post?

I recommend selling the GECs outright in the Traditionals for Sale section, applying the resulting funds towards Fiddlebacks.

It's more efficient, likely gains you more bang for your GEC buck, and leaves you poised to jump on offerings regardless of venue-- the Flea Market, Fiddleback Fridays, or FF's estimable vendors.

At least, that's what I've been doing. ;)

I mean, it doesn't hurt to offer up a Want list in the Flea Market with a note of GEC pattern #s you're willing to include as payment? But only if you're not concerned about missing out on a knife in the meantime.

Whoever bought the Starry Night KE Bushie on the Flea Market, enjoy! One of the nicest Fiddlebacks I've owned. Great price too...

It's been a while since I jumped on the soap box regarding the Flea Market and it's been a while since I've pissed anyone off (that I know of anyway). And we've got lots of new folks in the Fiddleback Forum lately which is awesome.

I'm not trying to single anyone out, just making a general comment and sharing my personal opinion.

While there's no rule for sellers prohibiting them from asking people to use Paypal Gift, buyers should be aware of rule #8 in the Buyer's Section:

8. Warning: You as a buyer are responsible for using Paypal as it was intended, according to their Terms of Service. Using the "Gift" option revokes any buyer protection you may have if something goes wrong and makes it easier to get scammed. Be smart and protect yourself, if you use gift and get scammed don't come crying to us about it as you've already been advised.

Rather than asking the buyer to figure out a price (gift or +4% type of thing), I just include everything in the asking price. Did you know that asking a buyer to explicitly cover the paypal fee is against the terms of service?

When buying knives, I'll typically pass on ones that ask for gift. Unless I REALLY want it, then I'll figure out the fee and buy it as goods anyway. I'm not going to give up my rights, even though I trust you guys.

I'll step off the soap box now.

Great post. I agree 100%.

Not saying it's right or wrong but as a buyer when you use "gift" you lose any sort of protection PayPal can give you so if they don't send the knife or it get lost, you lose the money... to save 3-4%... not worth it if you ask me

if I know the seller, worked with in the past or they have a long standing relationship here, then I'll do gift when I can.

When people do PayPal gift I thank them for their generosity then ask for payment at their convenience :)

Kidding of course, but that is the risk.

Thanks Guys. This sylvrfalcen is a great knife. I have another sylvrfalcen I've been daily carrying for months so I decided to set this one free and let someone else enjoy it.

thats not a Bushfinger Tony

it's hard from the different angles for me to tell what it is definitively

edit

looks like a Bushcrafter if I hold my head right:D

double edit

it lists Bushcrafter in the OP

Thank you Phillip. That's what happens when you've been up too late the night before...and you're thinking about your Bushfinger while trying to sell your Bushcrafter! The mind plays tricks on you.

Always got my back. Appreciate it.
