The future of RAT

There are some great knives out there with sheaths that really suck!

 That is a drum I have been beating for over 10 years. I have lost sales on great production knives because of the crappy sheaths that the manufacturers tried to save a few cents on; or somehow did not realize the importance of a functional sheath; or - just didn't give a damn! :grumpy:

I cannot wait for the training. I love R.A.T. no non sense approach to training. Their training is based on real word experience too. I like the direction the company is going. Keep up the good work!

This should be great for business! Especially if your products spill over into the hunting outdoors sporting clothing or tools. There is alot of expensive crap out there that gets sold due to the name that gets attached to the product. Scent reducing clothing is one illustration of this. I can imagine a 1k lumen RAT light too! Or a RAT portable satellite receiver/transmitter, RAT survival books with edible plant photos stored on i-book format, a single shot scatter gun ala zip gun/walking stick.
You guys have a cool job and an excellent base for your business. Cant wait to see your next product lines!

I am very excited about this. Soon as you mentioned a new pack coming I was listening. I know you guys will make sure quality will be top notch and useful products! Thanks!

No more knives???

So that means that I am not going to be able to have my RC dagger, muk, skinner, filet knive, paring knife, chef knife, or 4 sided trench knife like in Slaughterhouse-five?

Damn!

But really though....Sweet. Cutting things - bases covered. Lets see some cool gear!

i like the sound of where rat cutlery is going, better sheaths for other knives is a much needed prouct out there. Keep up the great innovation, you guys will be supported.

We actually had Eagle do a prototype sheath for the RC-3 that turned out nice, but after they started to get weird on us we backed off from doing anything with them.

That would be sweet , the Rc-3 is becoming one of my favorites for versatility.

Sounds like a good plan. I like the way the ultimate kit pouch turned out, and I guess now we will see another heap of useful items ...

Mike and I have been seriously considering the future of RAT and we figure we have designed just about every knife that anyone should ever need. Once we get the RC-10, Machete and folder to market, we will probably concentrate most of our efforts on mods to those knives instead of trying to come out with too many new designs. For example, stainless steel models, handle options, color options, etc. We are also turning our attention to the soft goods market since that's an area , in our opinion, that could use some major improvements in the survival market. This will most likely include designing new survival sheathing for other manufacturer's knives as an after-market option. There are some great knives out there with sheaths that really suck!

We are also working on some new survival tool ideas, but nothing nailed down yet.

Lastly, we are really ramping up the training side of our company. I had a meeting a week ago with two of the best outdoor survival instructors in this part of the country and we have some good things planned.

;)

Glad to hear that you guys have got a solid plan. Thanks for sharing, the future of RAT looks bright.

We did not say "no more knives" but we did say we have just about designed every knife that needs to be designed. We are still working on some collaborative knife projects and we still plan to do one of the designs from the design thread. So, we are NOT out of the knife business, just re-focusing.

What a great plan! I have often thought that there should be an alternative to the gear we are mostly stuck with. The available gear is good stuff but to me it is either too tactical or too technical. I am one who prefers to use the stuff I use everyday. More utilitarian I guess. You know stuff like Carhartt or Dickies. It would be nice to see gear and clothing made high quality with modern fabrics that I could be as comfortable in the mall as in the woods. Sheeple friendly but tough as nails and light as a feather.

That sounds like a great plan except for the folder part. The whole reason why I just bought an Izula is because it's lighter, more dependable, and a whole lot cheaper than any "hard use" folder. And that's a pretty crowded market to try to compete in when you have a viable and popular alternative. If you can get a stainless version of the Izula for the people who refuse to believe how low maintenance 1095 is, a folder becomes redundant and contrary to the simplicity of the rest of your product line.

looking forward to some of your future products!

i think the industry is FULL of enough "ideas", just hard to come by good KIT!

with the experience behind those who are designing the future product line, i am excited, and expecting too see a QUALITY product!
