and creating a divot for a bow drill is exactly one of the tasks a "survival" knife like that is called on to do. (In fact some of those kind of knives include a divot in their handle scales for that purpose).

And that knife can't do it.
Why would I need a bow drill if this knife has a ferro rod built into the sheath?
Would take that over a bow drill anytime.

BTW - this knife can be used to create a divot and carve, the fact that you are reviewing it through a picture is amazingly misinforming and says a thing or two about your credibility.
I bet if the exact same knife was made in the USA, you'd be all over it.

review Chinese knives. we like them. what we dont like is clones, homages and stolen design language.
Then stop supporting clones MO.
That Real Steel that you have was made in the same factory as Sanrenmu Knives that make homages/clones of some of the most popular models out there.
By buying it you supported making of clones.

I honestly thank your offer but I will refuse as when I get an "Emerson Kershaw" I want to pay its part to Ernest and the addition of his Wave deployment idea, as I said I believe in giving credit where it is due, and support the original makers of the ideas we all enjoy in our folders today. In fact I now do not own any of the three Ganzos in this picture

and do not intend to buy any model that is a clear knockoff, ripoff or direct, evident clone of another one. I've learned a few things since I got those, mainly thanks to this forum, so it's the least I can do.

As for grinding off a "wave" with the Dremel, I've had my poor attempts at it (see the previous pic, the Enlan half serrated one has a "wave" I crudely did myself, and thanks to it its deployment was 100% reliable in all my pants' pockets) and I'd rather not risk it, especially on my Spydercos, as you all often say: "you can take material and metal out, but can't put it or add it back!"
Also, I often remove the ZIpTies for times or occasions where I don't feel the need to open the folder as it is drawn from the pocket (i.e. out of my gardening and landscaping job, or on vacation and holiday times)
Hello, did you review that bottom green knife. It looks interesting. Was it any good?

That's the Ganzo G719 Auto.
I had one - it's decent but very heavy for the size.
They have much better autos now.
It looks original and nice. I don't mind heavy knives. They feel substantial to me. I used to carry a Benchmade Adamas. Thanks for the model info.

Sharpening it is going to be pretty annoying

Its like a big skinner bushcraft knife. Is that good?
Just like with a tanto - you can divide it to 2 areas and sharpen those separately.
It reminds of a smaller machete rather than a skinner.

The ferro rod should be a backup by itself (to a lighter).
Outdoor Survival 101 - Don't lose your ferro rod!

Then why dont they include a lighter?

A outdoors survival knife lacking function is a bad knife. Ganzo should have done more research before they borrowed this design. Then maybe they could have ripped off a good outdoor knife's design.

Cause they aren't SOG :D

It's not lacking any function, except maybe the function that allows it to be liked by couch survivors.
Like I've said before - if the same exact knife was made by an American company you'd be all over it - just like that Gerber garbage.
And it doesn't have a borrowed design either.
Original Ganzo - deal with it! :)

This is exactly what you want. Talking about your clone company. It has worked. For that I'll give you credit.

A small survival knife without a point is, well...pointless.

It isn't my clone company, but I do enjoy some of their products.
Wouldn't review them otherwise.

What really is pointless is trying to appreciate a knife through a picture without using it or at least holding it in the hand.
You want to give your opinion - find that knife, use it and prove it is good/worthless.
Other than that those are just empty words.

Actually not empty words at all to someone who has used enough knives to see that a knife's profile makes it unsuitable for tasks used in outdoors survival situations.

I don't have to use a cheese knife to know it it isn't going to work outdoors.

Same thing here.

Its a poorly designed redo of poorly designed Gerber. All one who has actually used knives beyond making a fuzz stick in their backyard with mown grass has to do is look at it.

Bahhhh, I made a mess of this. Basically, I wanted to quote Marci saying "I don't have to use a cheese knife to know it wouldn't work outdoors". BUT, the point still remains that I am unaware of anyone actually using this knife (pro or con) and commenting on how it performs overall. o_O If Ganzo is trying to reform, should they not be given at least a modicum of encouragement? Maybe just "it looks like it will perform poorly, but at least it's not a total rip off of another design; keep trying Ganzo and we "MAY" start buying your products", or something like that :) Criticism obviously has NOT worked. :(

If Ganzo is trying to reform
Who said they are trying to reform? lol they wont stop making copies in everyone elses design language. it would be great if they stopped going forward, but the shills will still back them up as they are gods in the knife world for some reason.

Perhaps I misinterpret you and some others, but I don't think so. It seems that you (the collective "you") go as far in one direction against Ganzo (even if they try to reform) as those you accuse go in their "supposed" defense. You should remember that you are dealing with a different culture and business paradigm where, among other things, all of "your" insults cause loss of "face", which is a GREAT insult. It may not be about honor and just about money. If that is the case, all discussion is useless and their transgressions will continue, and people WILL buy their products-make no mistake about that. :( Sooooo, why not give their (maybe) attempts at reform a little encouragement? What the heck, "nothing ventured..." ;)

I don't know why people keep inferring this is an original design. When I read it was an original, my interest was piqued. The second I looked at it I thought Lionsteel SR1 blade on a Bear Grylls handle. For me the only thing that they changed was the color and all the extras they threw on it. Nothing original there. Even if they did have an original design they still made their money off of directly copying everybody else's designs. US and Chinese copyright laws are completely different. Chinese copyright laws allow you to make one subtle difference and it would not infringe on the original design. The U.S. is a lot more strict obviously. I'll freely admit I bought a few gonzo's in the past but now they just sit in a pile and never used because they can't hold a candle to the American made versions. You get what you pay for. Instead of buying four or five Gonzo's you could buy one original Spyderco and use the heck out of it. I have a molleta sr1 and while that blade shape looks neat it is not very useful. I can't see how it be useful on a survival knife.

*Edited for typos

WTF is with ugly ass bolts on your Byrds? The rightmost one looks like a significant portion of that tiny blade is blocked by your thumbstud(?). Not a fan of tossing a big heavy weight on a small, light knife either... but if it works for you I guess.
