The GEC Production Database Thread

And thank you everyone who has chimed in so far it is very helpful input. I should be done with the initial database in a few more days and then I can start researching the one-offs.

I think for this effort I would prefer to leave out the Schrades or any other brands that wouldn't normally appear in GECs production totals...at least for now.

Darren - Are you disaggregating your data by pattern/year/blade? e.g. a column for year, blade style, number of blades, and pattern? It'd be interesting to be able to sort by all single blade sheepsfoots, etc.

Godspeed on the data collection.

Godspeed on the data collection.
The primary attributes in my db are year, pattern #, brand, handle material and quantity. However, I can easily derive the primary blade type and blade quantity from the pattern #. So it would be very easy to sort by all single blade sheepsfoots, etc.
Having said that, the database is only going to be as accurate and complete as the information on the GEC website...at least at first. In the early years (2006-2007), GEC didn't provide the whole pattern # in the production totals so I have no way to know how many blades or what kind without further research (which in this case would be quite extensive). The other attributes are closer to 99% complete given the provided information but the pattern # attribute is going to be closer to maybe 80-90% something like that due to the missing information.
I'll be able to start filling in some of those blanks in phase 2 of the project as I get the information. The ultimate goal would be to have a full pattern # for every item in the database.

Ok got the bulk of all the data ingested now I am going through some finer details.

I am putting together a list of questions that I have. For starters, does anyone know anything about a 2015 SFO for J. Rouch? The description of the knife is "ROU-HIGO-1.0" and there is no handle material specified.

Also, if someone could point me to the history of the rendezvous knives I am lacking some of that info for the database...maybe a thread?

A few interesting tidbits...
Total Unique Pattern & Material Combinations = 3693
Total Unique Material Names = 838
Total Number of Single Count Production Knives (only made 1 of them) = 152
Most Produced Pattern = #15 (17,411)
Second Most Produced Pattern = #73 (12,153)

More to come...

Darren, impressive sir! What are the bottom two patterns in # of produced?

Thanks!
Through 2017, the least produced pattern is the #82 (Coon Skinner/Abilene Stock Knife/Bull Moose) at 348...followed by the #64 (Babylon Hill Special) @ 409.

Top 5 SFOs by Quantity Produced
Northwoods - 10,867
Charlie Campagna - 7915
Mike Latham - 6061
Don Hess - 4305
DLT Trading - 2128

Wow anyone looking to collect all of the Charlie's SFOs has a lot of collecting to do: 160 unique variations of 43 different patterns :) And my hunch is there are more that probably aren't listed in the GEC production totals.

@waynorth do you have a sample of every SFO you've done in your collection? It amazes me to think about what your collection must look like and it has been an education to sift through all the years of GEC production and see the different varieties of materials and patterns you've created. Your contribution to the traditional knife world is mind blowing.

GEC was really mixing things up in 2012-2013!

You're welcome Ed I made sure to change the settings so it had a lot of contrast :)

I have some unknowns in the database that I would love to help resolve. Any help is greatly appreciated. Hasn't been a lot of activity in this thread so not sure if anyone is even paying attention :)

1. There was a 2015 SFO for J. Rouch labeled as ROU-HIGO-1.0 and there was no handle material listed. I am trying to figure out what kind of knife that was and what material was used for the handle.

2. There were four 2015 SFOs for Percy Richardson labeled as 15S115, 15 (Elissa), 48 (Cavalla) ad 48 (Lexington). I am trying to figure out what kind of material was used for the handles.

3. Don Hess had a number of SFOs made from 2013 - 2017. All of them appear to be fixed blade knives but none of them had the handle material listed. Any information on the Don Hess SFOs would be great.

4. I don't have the blade count or blade type for any GEC produced in 2006 or 2007. That is a lot of blanks to fill in and not sure if I'll ever get there...but want to take a stab at it.

Not trying to be negative but since it was brought up and we now have the stats and graphs to see, ‘12/‘13 vs ‘17/‘18 man what a snooze fest. But, I have high hopes for 2019! Just my opinion.
