The GEC Production Database Thread

Not trying to be negative but since it was brought up and we now have the stats and graphs to see, ‘12/‘13 vs ‘17/‘18 man what a snooze fest. But, I have high hopes for 2019! Just my opinion.
That is ok I figured the data would show trends that didn't necessarily please us for whatever reasons. It is definitely hard not to be envious of those who were actively collecting during the 2012-2013 time frame. 57 patterns and 357 different materials in two years. Having said that, I would probably have got divorced, lost my home, and filed for bankruptcy from buying so many of them! I can hardly contain myself now I can't imagine what those years must have been like.

I have some unknowns in the database that I would love to help resolve. Any help is greatly appreciated. Hasn't been a lot of activity in this thread so not sure if anyone is even paying attention :)

1. There was a 2015 SFO for J. Rouch labeled as ROU-HIGO-1.0 and there was no handle material listed. I am trying to figure out what kind of knife that was and what material was used for the handle.

2. There were four 2015 SFOs for Percy Richardson labeled as 15S115, 15 (Elissa), 48 (Cavalla) ad 48 (Lexington). I am trying to figure out what kind of material was used for the handles.

3. Don Hess had a number of SFOs made from 2013 - 2017. All of them appear to be fixed blade knives but none of them had the handle material listed. Any information on the Don Hess SFOs would be great.

4. I don't have the blade count or blade type for any GEC produced in 2006 or 2007. That is a lot of blanks to fill in and not sure if I'll ever get there...but want to take a stab at it.

1. J Rouch is the guy now running KSF, I think. You might reach out to him.
2. Percy uses wood from the ship decks and steel ( from ships made into damascus) for the blades. The names are the ships would be my guess.
3. Hess only buys the blanks - no handles.
Both 2 and 3 are contract knives, not GEC branded (I think that is the case for Percy).

4. 2006 dated knives were only #73 and #23 two blades as far as I know. Post the patterns from 2007 we can probably fill in the gaps pretty quick.

You can see Percy's knives in this photo gallery. Like Mike said, it's ship deck wood. https://battleshipknives.com/photo-gallery

Thank you Mike! Here are all the 2006 and 2007 patterns. If what you stated is true that takes care of the 23's and 73's from 2006. There was one entry in the 2007 totals that specified single blade for the 23 Northfield...so I can assume the other Northfield 23s from 2007 are two blades.

Thing was in the years you quoted, most knives were available for a good few days or even weeks-including for people like me outside America. That's long gone as most everything is sold before it's even made. But, in the early days you naturally had a lot more 'new' patterns coming out rather than marathon runs of established patterns like today.

Never assume with GEC. No, I would not assume the rest were two blades. That was the year of the great SARPNT, Bronco Charlie's, Beaver Tail's, etc. MANY of the 23/73's were single spey blade.

Not to be a pain but in your chart in post #25 you do not list any SFO's for 2008 and I believe I'm correct the knife I posted in post #13 was an SFO from 2008. When I purchased it I sent photos to Christine who confirmed that fact.

I don't recall the name either; but if memory serves that may be the only run (seems as if there were bone as well) of GEC knives in 420HC... The contractor sold them mostly on eBay.

GEC also made some Bulldog Brand with a BULLDOG USA dog bone shield. I won't throw up any pics since you aren't including those.

I found the quote from Chris about the 735108.
"That was a SFO run for Terry Snyder. They are stainless blades with burnt stag handles and we made 101 of them."

I encourage everyone to be a pain :) All of these inputs are exactly what I am looking for. GEC did not list any of their SFOs until 2010...so if there were any 2006-2009 I don't know about them. They also didn't list all of their rendezvous knives so that is another piece.
I'll add the Terry Snyder SFO to the database thank you for those details :)

It is really, really difficult for me to visualize that kind of atmosphere. It seems everyone who experienced that will definitely look back and call that the "good ol' days" :) My how things have changed. These days even the reserves are treated like drops and pretty soon we will need to get on a reserve list just to have a shot at the actual reserve list o_O Madness. I learned quickly to establish a business relationship with a dealer and I don't have to worry about all that.
Thank you for the insight.

I know there are a couple users that have most or all of the Rendezvous knives. I know @L.H.S has the past 6 or so years.

For sure. In fact, most of that I can probably research myself fairly easily with a few forum searches. I might need to dig further to find out quantities though.

I have nothing to add except:
Thanks waverave (and all others with info) for putting in the work to make the database. I'm looking forward to the finished product

I'm pretty sure some of SMKW's SFOs were done in 420HC, under their Cripple Creek brand, and maybe others as well.
