The GEC Production Database Thread

Made some size correlations (thanks to black mamba black mamba ).

For the sake of simplicity, the sizes (approx. closed measurements) are as follows:
S - less than or equal to 3.25"
M - greater than 3.25" and less than or equal to 3.75"
L - greater than 3.75" and less than or equal to 4.25"
XL - greater than 4.25"

Here is the raw data:

Darren, that is fantastic! And . . . it totally makes sense, since the medium sized pocket knives are the most popular by both numbers and patterns produced. 2017 was an outlier, with more large than mediums produced, and almost no extra large knives at all.

Here is what I have for Rendezvous knives...was hoping someone could help fill in the highlighted fields. Was there a Rendezvous in 2008? Can anyone provide me the code for the 2018 Whaler?

And I think the odd number for the 2016 Mustang is either because they geniunely made 47 of them for the Rendezvous or they didn't specify which of them were serialized for the Rendezvous. It seems like it may have been 30 plus 17 made unserialized.

There are a few SFO's GEC made for Perry Miller (Spaceport Cutlery) under the Tuna Valley brand:
2007 - "Small Trapper Scout" - 73 pattern stamped 5201 - 440 stainless blades - polished abalone scales - acorn shield - blade etched "prototype" - 2 pieces made
2008 - same knife as 2007, but made 1 piece in Mammoth Ivory handles, and 1 piece in Burnt Stag handles

2009-2012 were regular production runs of knives stamped Tuna Valley Cutlery Co. If you need any of the info on these runs, I can give it to you.

Thank you for the info. For my initial database I am trying to focus on just the GEC branded knives but plan to expand to capture the others at some point. I already have all the Northwoods in the database and a handful of other non-GEC branded runs but would like to eventually get everything if I can. I will definitely get back to you :)

I posted the following information in another thread but I think more people will see it here and that the information will help others further understand how these particular patterns came about at GEC. If of course waverave waverave has an objection, I will delete it.

"Don't forget how the Farm and Field line got started. They started with Mike Latham's (@knifeswapper) Bull Nose Work Knife SFO. I think there were only 29 of them made. They were the first " Sod Buster" style knives made by GEC. I believe they were the first GEC knives to use 01 Tool Steel. Mike could add to this if he sees this post.

Here is GEC's Farm & Field description.

First, Mike's knife; then the Red Necks; then the Farm & Fields.

I'm wondering if waverave waverave should give them a mention somehow in the Farm & Field totals - maybe a sub-Farm & Field section.

Here is the 715112 made for Mike.

And the non-SFO put out later.

NOTE: Mike's SFO has no marking on the pivot washer while the one put out later by GEC has F&F on the pivot washer. Both are called Bull Nose Work Knife. ALSO, note the release dates."

"Interesting! What I had in the database for these is what was in the production totals...they were only listed as "Bullnose" without a tang number associated with it. The Smooth Orange is the only run listed for 2011...28 of them made. I'll update the database to replace "Bullnose" with "715111" in this case.
I also see a Black Delrin 715112 the following year but that is all that is listed for Mike Latham.
There were a few F&F variations in 2012 in addition to Mike's SFO...available in Orange Delrin, Black Delrin or Nifebrite Acrylic.
As far as I can tell, those are the only 71's that were produced."

Don't forget the 715118 #71s made in April 2018 in various colors. The 01 Tool steel was dropped and they came with 1095 steel blades

Thanks Ed. I was wondering about that.
I looked back at the photos on the GEC website to verify and looks like the O1 tool steel was only used through 2013.

I think you're right on that score Darren ( waverave waverave ). As a matter of fact, I was a bit miffed when they dropped the 01 Tool Steel for the 1095 as I thought the 01 was better suited to the aurora/mystique of the Bull Nose.

After showing my new Bullnose to my boss, and telling her that they're done in limited run batches, she asked "how many of them were made?" I said I don't know lol, thought of this thread and decided to ask. So how many burlap micarta Bullnoses were produced? Thanks
BTW its already been put to work, great knife IMO.

Here is a list of all the 71's produced in micarta. The only burlap micarta I see is the 715117 SFO for Mike Latham @ CK - 152 of them made.
