The H.E.S.T. application thread

don't forget that the RAT DPx H•E•S•T was designed to used for traps, improvised spears, weapons and with a little Newtonian physics and even double mounting for many other uses. For example the "holes" in the knife allow you to attach the H•E•S•T to more H•E•S•Ts, work benches, long handles. They can be used as lashing points along with the mirrored choil/wire breaker and "bottle opener". The bottle opener and pry bar were also designed for dynamic release points in traps and booby traps. The large open handle allows a vertical handle (much like an axe) and can be doubled up with another H•E•S•T as workable hoe, axe or splitting device.

You can hammer the pommel with a rock to make a splitter, sharpen the pry bar to make a kindling stripper and space two H•E•S•T's with bolts and washers to make your own handle to cut skin into laces.

The range of applications in a austere environment are impressive. It just takes imagination and a few basic nuts, bolts and wires. All which can be carried in the handle of course :)

i have looked and looked. how long is the blade on the HEST? if it is 3" that would be great.

Wow! Thanks Mr. Pelton for all the various suggested uses, I had no idea the HEST could do so many things and I think this will inspire us to try to be inventive ways to use your design. I think I would like to buy a 2nd HEST now just to try out these other configurations. If anyone else has pictures of these or other various set-ups I sure would like to see them

According to Knifecenter.com the blade is 3 -1/8 inches http://blog.knifecenter.com/rat-cutlery-dpx-hest-knife/

Just made a spear with the HEST. Actually I can't really see where I could use this, since a pointed stick would do the same, and your not running the risk of loosing the knife. Anyway, it was fun doing it and the spear works well.
I will come up with pics later.

Now you don't need the hest for making an harpoon but a short spear like the Assegai (Zulu close combat short spear) can be an amazing weapon.

I just got a H.E.S.T. I love this knife. I call it my mini Rambo Knife. I know John (Rambo) would have had one of these if they were around back then. This knife has replaced my Izula as my EDC. I'll take the Izula along sometimes so that it does not feel left out.

I hate threads like this, they end up costing me money. Looks like I will be adding something else to my cart.

This is double meaning picture.
1-Apple is a symbol of tentation...
2-Well, "Rambo" are apples too ! :D

(The name of the heroe came in the mind of his author as he wanted Rimbaud (like the french poet/adventurer) and his wife came back home with apples !)

Nonsense. Ole' John stopped buying production knives long ago. Now he prefers the custom route. :D

Non sense.
"Ole' Johnny" (born in 1947) forges his own knives.
BUT if he would buy a production knife...
With some apples...:D...
He would be coming FOR YOU !!!

You guys....Now I really want a HEST too :(

My wallet is really feeling my knife addiction these last few months.
