Spear:
How to do it when only a short paracord is at hand:

Nice pictures.

My two cents.
This is a very clever use of a fork and the tourniquet to secure the knife. And this will do for a very light spear. (Or a long handle cutting tool)

But as you notice it: you won't go to war (or hunt) with that spear legionnaire ! ;)
IMHO you'll need much much more cord/rope to have a solid spear head (or at least a notch in your tourniquet perpendicular little rod). And also you need to chose wisely which branch you are going to use as the poll of your spear. :) Down (wider) side of the poll is the head of the spear. Noticing the direction of the fork you use the "light" side of the your piece of wood for the head.

Thank you for sharing this nice pictures (you got snow en Suisse??? C'est l'hiver ou bien ?) It gives a lot of ideas too !

Cheers
Nemo

Lucky you ! You only want ONE !!! :D

LOL. Well, to be honest, I want the RC4, 5, and 6 too. AAARHG there are so many knives I'd want :grumpy:

I'd actually use the HEST to give that stick a nice point on it, and hunt with that instead.
Very clever use though.

I just got a H.E.S.T. I love this knife. I call it my mini Rambo Knife. I know John (Rambo) would have had one of these if they were around back then. This knife has replaced my Izula as my EDC. I'll take the Izula along sometimes so that it does not feel left out.

Funny both blades got the same thickness... and the same grind ! (The HEST is not a full flat ground blade but lightly saber flat ground...)
Also the flat screwdriver on the guard of the Rambo II knife point in the same direction of the pry bar (which can also be used as screwdriver...).
And the saw notches on the Rambo can be used to break wire...
Many similitudes !

How does it compare to the Izula size wise? so you have any pics?

Just made a spear with the HEST. Actually I can't really see where I could use this, since a pointed stick would do the same, and your not running the risk of loosing the knife. Anyway, it was fun doing it and the spear works well.
I will come up with pics later.

I'm not too keen on risking my knife as a spear head either, but pointed stick < proper spear. Spending some dirt time with a fire hardened wood spear point was a real eye opener for me. Penetration with a spear-sized wooden point leaves much to be desired. Quite ineffective on mid-sized game. While I'm sure it is possible to kill game with said spear, if I'm ever in a survival situation you won't see me trusting a chance at energy/moral boosting meat to a wooden spearpoint unless that meat is fish. Basically, my point is that there is something to be said for a metal blade as a head, even if it is a bad idea to use your knife.

That knife doesn't look like the official Rambo1 knife. So what is it?

Really ?
got it in 1986. Beat the crap of it: chopped, digged, thrown it... it' written "Rambo II" on it and "440C Japan". Great fantazy knife. Bought in Normandy.
Got that compass cap and fish hooks and line and matches in the handle !
Sounded like the real mac coy to me. ;)

Its not how big it is....its how you make it big!

Makes sense to me. I dig the fact that you show up on the boards. I have just became a fan of your writing and soon, funding permitting, I will be a fan of the knife you designed. Keep up the good work.

Why don't we see more pics here?
Anyone used it as an axe, spear, or what so ever?

The construction is surprisingly stable. It throws very well, and makes a decent weapon with an incredible bang.

Nice pictures. The HEST seems quite unique, I don't think there are similiar offerings from likes of Becker, Bark River or Fallkniven. I'm sold!

Next ESEE knife I'll be getting will be the HEST, the 3 & 4 can wait.

Sorry if it isn't the clearest. My HEST PSK.

Folks, this is one of those blades where everything is 100% right. The handle offers a secure, full, SAFE grip, and you can't possibly fit more belly into such a small blade. It's built like a tank, I refer to mine as the pocket RC5. It's got all the right curves in all the right places. Balance is good, fit and finish are good (although mine's pretty much naked from use), it is a knife that fills many nitches and still fits easily in your pocket. Though I wish the same could be said for the sheath...
