The Hinderer Anticipation Thread - What Are YOU Waiting for?

A word on fake watches. I wanted a Submariner my whole life and got sucked into that whole fake watch forum. Bought a dozen different watches from China... Best they could make, swiss ETA insides etc. Vintage Rolex mostly, some current models. Ended up selling them all.... They all eventually stop or fail. Bought the real Sub finally for my 49th birthday. Well worth it.... Totally different level. You can't fake greatness and the Chinese copycat stuff is ALL junk. Assuming the knives are the same.

Well said, and I have to say I like your tastes in knives and watches. When I was trying to find and get my hands on my first Hinderer, I posted here asking buying a zt560 would be a good way of holding myself over until I could get my first. The overall answer was correct as I can now confirm- no. Some collaborations, homages, and fakes (though obviously collaborations don't have any of the negative economic impact) can be great, but they are never the same. If you want something, take your time and expend the effort to get it. Counting on short cuts is a bad idea.

Well I wasn't really looking but somehow ended up getting a great deal on a gen 2 custom spanto. Couldn't pass it up! Should be here by the weekend. :) I'll post lots of pics once she arrives.

thats some MJ comeback, wearin the 45 move there Jensen! so happy you made that work. AMAAAZING score bro!! cant wait for the pics. :D

I still feel like its too good to be true. Don't jinx me!!! The deal I got on it was amazing. I really shouldn't have bought it but you all know that when things like this present themselves you find a way to make it happen. Thank goodness for tax returns!

Yup always a balance Jensen between needs and wants. I have always worked hard to provide for the family so I don"t feel guilty for an occasional indulgence. However the old age axiom " happy wife happy life" trumps lots of decisions.

^ Very true Joe. I bust my butt year round, especially this past month. Been working 7 days a week and made ends meet. So I don't feel guilty at all. I also find it helps to buy the wife something thoughtful and unexpected before you break the news of your latest purchase. Haha.

Quick question for 3" owners. I spent beaucoup bucks on a NIB 3.5, got some killer blue hardware and a CF scale... But I still find myself reaching for my BM 940 most days I'm not in the studio because its so small, so light, so sharp (shave your face with it sharp just using the Sharpmaker). Do you think I would feel diff about a 3"? Are they harder to find? Rarely turn up in the Marketplace etc

There is a pretty big difference between the 3" and the 3.5" in my opinion. The 3" is 35% lighter, 21% thinner overall and 13% shorter closed.

The Benchmade 940 is still a little lighter than the 3" XM but they are nearly the same thickness overall and the 3" XM is a bit shorter closed (although the 3" XM's blade is 22% thicker despite the overall thickness being nearly the same). Overall, the 940 and 3" XM are pretty comparable and the 3" XM usually has Duratech 20CV steel which I feel is a great choice.

I'd say give the 3" XM a try, you probably won't be disappointed, I carry a 3" daily and I am looking forward to a 3" wharnie when they become available.

@RDA: is your 3" EDC a Spanto or Slicer? Flipper or non?

I also highly recommend giving the 3" a go. Like everything ever created, it's not for everyone...But, it does carry and tuck away quite well and IS the reliable, robust quality of Hinderer products.

They do catch onto this ;)

I have a couple of 3" XMs (one each spanto and slicer, both flippers). I carry 3.5" XMs almost exclusively but am loathe to give up the smaller ones. They are Hinderers in all aspects, just the small version :) I expect to have occasions where the smaller size will come in handy, for example the rare times I have to put on my dress blues or a suit. If I lived somewhere warm I'd imagine the 3" would make a perfect shorts knife.

Jensen is correct, there should be a run of 3"ers soon so expect to see them start to pop up..

I was very similar to you, then got the 3". I don't think anything else has found my pocket in 8 months. For me, the 3.5" is just too big for my city lifestyle, it has only gotten use camping since I got the 3". Holding out for a 3" Wharnie, and will probably sell the 3.5"

I carry an XM 3.5" 80% of the time with a 3" the other 20%, 4" is almost exclusively for bag carry.

^ got another batch of 3" rolling out really soon! Try a slicer. :)

Forgive me if this is a dumb question Jensen81 but are you in the 'know' that there are 3" coming from RH? I'm going to the Custom Knife Show in a week - I will likely ask him in person - but would love to start sequestering $

They do their knives in batches, and folks from the Ranch have been saying for a few months that 3" runs were starting sometime in the first half of 2014.
