To me .220 is a perfect allround thickness and with the choice between tan or black Res-C i am really pleased with the release in generell.

Thanks a lot, Jerry and crew!!!:D

I just remembered that the SJTLE was 0.22" thick with full convex. I'm just continuing to gain perspective on the thickness and grind of the B8. I'm getting more excited about this knife.

Is it Tuesday yet??! :o

Not sure I agree. In the old days, with lots of hand work, yes. It seems like no two SHBM were alike. Now, with every blade being carved and ground on a mill, they almost have to be identical for the CNC programming to even work.

CNC programming is an exact science. The program says move the tool to "x co ordinate" the machine obliges... The variations come from tool wear. Its certainly not uncommon for a tool to leave a thou or two (.001-.002) or MORE material if it is at the end of its life.

Its also reasonable to conclude that if a tool is brand new, and the operator hadn't made an offset from the previous, worn tool, that it could take off extra material. Both have happened to me, at various shops.

That being said, I imagine a blade finished up with brand new tools, still "in print" would certainly not be scrapped.

Good to know.

Thanks, TFHT!

Like I said guys, I have my e-mail typed up (Do I NEED a SWATMANDU too???....Do I NEED a SWATMANDU too???...Do I....), so I may be buried with some 8" INFI once my wife sees the CC bill.:D

I have some BEAUTIFULLY ugly Res-C blades out now and I'll take some measurements here in a few and post 'em up. I'd love to see a pic of the plunge line or a point on picture of the blended zero to see the geometry of this B8.

I'll also try and take some more pics of the balance points on the various knives for comparison.

Thanks for not voting me off the island.... yet.:D:D:D

PS - There's something about that painted Crusader that makes it much more appealing to me than the satin version. I like the look of that!!!

Yes, I'm getting the Basic 8 LE. My guess is that Jerry will make as many as we order in this configuration, and there is no way of knowing, nor expecting, any future variants.

SB, have you measured the thickess of your B10s? In another thread last night, someone put up a link to the B10 announcement:

http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...t-Basic-10-LE-Special-Pricing-and-Specs-YOWZA!!!!

The thickness is given as "Approx. .23", and my choilless one is not that thick. But what really drew my attention is the pics of the two versions. The choiled one has a wider blade than the choilless. The difference is real using a ruler laid on the monitor screen. So I wonder if anyone has both, what is the width in reality? 'Ganza pics don't always match what gets delivered later. So if the B10 w/choil is wider, then it has more weight out front.

I think SB needs to send me his B10 for an extended test session vs. mine. 6 months should be enough.

As posted somewhere else, it's not always so much thick vs thin for me, as much as how the total package feels for the tasks. (Except small knives. They need to be thin for slicing. Remember kids, what Cliff Stamp taught us: geometry cuts.)

After Troy pinged me last night, I was swinging my choilless B10 and SBR around (fortunately, no bourbon was involved), measuring dimensions and checking the balance point. The SBR is shorter, but with a broader blade at the same thickness. These two do feel more similar than I had recalled. I may have to delay my intention to sell the B10 (the resale market for these sucks anyway), track down a beater B9, take some nice Basic family pics, and do some more testing. Having this large chopper collection is kind of silly, there's nothing here to chop.

So, I remain optimistic that with four years development time, Jerry and Co. have dialed in a Basic 8 that feels right. Come spring, I will gather up my eight inchers and go find some trees.

Just thought I would contribute to the B10 discussion. My choiless b10 is indeed 0.230, even at half the blade length it's 0.220. The blade width is 1.69" measured fwd of the talon hole, where the edge starts. It weighs in at about 14oz. I freakin love the B10 choiless so much for my purposes. I've tested it against many big knives and it wins hands down in the weight/performance department. Weight Really matters when you're humping gear on a mountain.... Ounces become pounds... I'm sure the B8 will also shine bright...if I didn't need a knife to also clear dense veg on trails, the b8 would be THE choice.

hmmm, interesting. My digital caliper is dead, even after a battery change :grumpy:, so I dug up an old analog caliper for my measurements. Can't think of why it shouldn't be accurate, but now I'm wondering...

Anybody else have some accurate dimensions on a B10?

I just measured my B-10 with choil,
On the spine, 1/4" ahead of the handle = .230
On the spine, halfway from the handle to tip = .222
On the spine, 1" back from the tip = .162
Hope that helps...

Here's what I got for measurements from the knives I had handy (My CGDF and my Battle Guard are with norcalblacktail right now).

B10LE choil, B10 DCBB no choil, Battle Rat, Satin Battle Rat, Camp Tramp, Euro-6, Gen-1 RMD. Told ya I like Res-C.:D:thumbup:

(last pic in reverse order)

Here’s are the measurements for each blade…(disclaimer, these are my knives and some have been whooped on and re-sharpened)...

Model = Thickness / Blade Length / Blade Height in front of choil
(on the SBR, CT and E6 I also measured right at the clip transition on the spine)…

B10LE w/ choil = .218” / 10.125” / 1.625”
B10DCBB no choil = .203” / 10.125" / 1.625”
Battle Rat = .250” / 9.375” / 1.750”
Satin Battle Rat = .218” / 9.25” / 1.718” & 1.750”
Camp Tramp = .234” / 7.375" / 1.812” & 1.781”
Euro-6 = .265” / 6.812” / 1.625” & 1.593”

I measured the thickness on the spine directly in front of the handle.

I also ranked them by "FEEL" from most blade heavy to most neutral. Here's the pic of that order...

BR, CT, SBR, B10LE, B10DCBB, E6 and RMD (I kinda wish I still had my SOD, but NO REGRETS)

UPDATE: I had a different order when I first posted this info, but I just went in again after dinner and did another side-by-side "feel" test. The SBR and both B10's are sooo close in feel, that it's hard to tell much difference. The CT felt a smidge more blade heavy tonight than it felt earlier this afternoon for some reason....maybe I needed more "Iron" in my dinner meal.:D:thumbup:

I can't remember where the Battle Guard ranked in the "Feel" arena (I want to say between the SBR and CT, but it could be between the B10LE and the SBR). Even though it's not here, the CGDF is the BEAST of the bunch with it's Massive hunk of SR-77 sitting out in front of its Res-C goodness!!!

I also took pictures of the balance points of the blades and I'll paste those into the next post...

Here are the Balance points for each blade (MAN that E6 was hard to balance on that knife edge!!!)

I confirmed with a straight edge both B10's and the SBR are FFG's...So if the B8 really is a TRUE .220" blended zero convex grind...it WILL be thicker than my B10's and may feel identical to the Camp Tramp!!!:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

Thank you very much for that work, Stump! Useful info--you've contributed over and over to the "reference quality" of this thread, and this is a great example! Thanks to you, too, Blademik and Rhino--much appreciated!

Thank YOU Will for your motivation and spirit!!!

Now if I can ask a question from you.....

WHY DO I KEEP CHANGING UP MY PRE-TYPED E-MAIL ORDER FOR TUESDAY NIGHT?!?!?!?:confused::confused:

Hey,

Since the Combat Grade .275" HOG B8 is not premiering on Tuesday night, I just thought of a new name for the .220" B8LE:

The Javelina Bait!:D:D:D
