You gotta stop showing me things that don't exist Tim. Those would be staples in any collection!

Gentleman ---- I finally landed a Basic 8 LE and Mashed Cat Sheath (thanks RAD). I know many might not agree with what I plan to do with it --- but I'm ready to convert the edge to a V grind and give it a mirror polished edge. The question is at what angle . . . I want it to be an efficient chopper/cutter --- but I want the edge to be durable. I'm leaning towards a 19.5 (39 inclusive) degree edge. Thoughts?? My Hell Razor is 19.5 degrees and I think it's perfect for really tough use (femur bones, knotted wood, etc.).

If 19.5 works for your HELLRAZOR, just make a secondary bevel above the 19° cutting edge that's a bit less steep, and you're golden.

The final cutting edge could be reeeeeal tiny, no one would even know its there I bet. Try a 24 dps leading to a 16 dps.

So are you suggesting a 24 degree secondary and a 16 degree primary? Sounds like a rather slicey profile? Do you think that would be durable enough to handle knotted seasoned wood? I want to try to avoid the edge rolling after each excursion. Then again -- I wouldn't know unless I tried.

Great! Now not only do I want a Bolo 13, and a .30B8, but I want to eat ice cream and cake with them... Thanks Izula. :grumpy: --- ;)

Way to keep this thread ALIVE guys!!! I'm back to work, so I can only pop in from time to time now.

Keep the 30BEight Saber on track!

Congrat's to you guys for the INFI Ice Cream spoons and the newly obtained B8 LE's and CG's!!!

I'm glad you like it, ALOT! I was thinking though, you might even try 17 degrees per side…. then use it and see how it holds up for your expected uses.

If the apex takes damage then simply increase the angle very slowly until the apex isn't taking damage with that usage.

Hey Chris,

I think you nailed it right at 19 --- I do still want this edge to be VERY tough. In terms of sliceyness and its ability to bite very deep -- I should be okay because the apex is taken to .5 micron and you already work on the shoulders. I'm actually working on it as we speak (a couple hours in already). I just finished using 1600 grit ceramic stones. I'm about to start with a 1.4 micron ceramic, then a .6 micron ceramic, then back up to a loaded 5 micron balsa wood strop, then a 3 micron micron balsa strop, then a 1 micron balsa, and finally a .5 micron balsa strop. I'll post pics right after I finish and then do a field test tomorrow morning.

Man. I don't have the time for 1/4 of that work. I can't wait to see what comes of it. You should post up a step by step tutorial showing the edge after each step for those of us who don't know when to quit.....
