It’s not quite “One blade to rule them all” but it ain’t to shabby.

Balances at the plunge line.

From the photo it appears to have a very nice taper to point—I know it’s not technically “distal”, but the angle of the clip down into the primary grind appears to reach a nice thin cross section at the point.

Thanks again for the pics and balance info!

Got mine today...she's gorgeous. Forgot I ordered sterile also...looks nice and clean. She's begging for a strip session tomorrow.

Love the FFG and the WhiteFeather clip. Still thick at the tip (doesn't thin out as much as I expected). With the WhiteFeather clip, it feels shorter than I expected...definitely a much different feel from the Basic 8 and the DS8.

My HOGB8 woke up this morning and begged me to strip her....I couldn't say no. Pics another day - too much work happening at the moment. Very smooth, clean finish...but not machined like usual, almost looks DC (don't think it's decarb, but not sure exactly what it is). A couple initial observations:

The DS8 & Basic 8 are comparable in handling. I like the Basic 8's blade profile for outdoor work, but the DS8 is much more comfortable to choke up on. Haven't used the HOGB8 yet, but it's a beast! I am confident in the thickness (in combination of the FFG) excelling at outdoor work...but IMHO, the Choil is actually "worse" than the Basic 8. The thickness, combined with the offset of the choil, makes it awkward in hand and less controllable / quick.

I can't wait to get out in the woods and use the HOG. Seems it will make a great camp knife.

Thanks for the comparisons between knives and info on the blade finish under the coating—much appreciated!:cool:
(Now about those pics...:D)

...and yes, I agree (along with so many here): the choil design on the Basics (ever since the B11) has needed a re-think. Great knives, but as always—could be even better.
