THE Hollow Handle Knife Thread

Never heard of this maker before. Wolf Borger from Germany. Knife built in the '80s according to the seller.

Wolf Borger was well known and respected in the german knife community. He was a master knifemaker, sold knifemaking supplies and held workshops on knifemaking for interested amateurs.
He unfortunately passed away, way to soon and rather unexpectedly. I think it was last year.
His widow is trying to keep the business alive: http://www.wolf-borger-messer.de/
He did build some remarkable hollow handle survival knives during the '80s and '90s, and at some point in the '90s developed his very own survival knife that had a build in attachment point for jig saw blades. Not sure how practical that was, I never owned one, but it sure looked cool.
Not my picture, but it's the second from right.

Thanks for the information. It appears that Wolf made some nice quality knives.

He sure did.

Unfortunately I don't own any of his HH knives. But I did have him cut me a blade blank for a hunting knife in RWL34 about 15 years ago....

Wolf Borger was actually the very first guy that I'd heard about regarding making handmade First Blood knives. Besides Jimmy Lile of course. I am going to try and prepare myself for next time one of his First Blood knives are on Ebay. Maybe I will get one then.

Right now though, I am focused on getting my 6th ACK knife and also working on getting a First Blood or Rambo Missions knife made by Andy Wood. He said he hopes to start making the Rambo Mission knife real soon.

This thread certainly went a long way.
And there's some nice HH knives in here too 😁

Guys what you think of this? Damascus Survival Knife, Allen Elishewitz.
But I'm not sure it's a hollow handle, in the description they only wrote "the cap is removable"

I think this is great, never ending thread with constant updates, nice pictures and first hand info for all those who love HH knives....

There is not many good knives of this style and I think plenty of knifemakers or manufacturers have quite good opportunity to fill in this gap...

Sadly,,, what I read and followed on net I think there is nearly absent middle premium segment of these style of knives, most of HH knives are bargains below or about 100 bucks (Schrade, Boker etc.) or those pricey ones - 500+bucks at cheapest ,,,, there is nearly nothing in between, apart of some exceptions (maybe I am wrong and missing correct info) but I d love to see on the market more premium production HH blades such as Lile Rambo series or similar designs made for use out of solid quality steels, priced 150-300 bucks...These sort of classic survival knives are just missing on the market apart of some minor exceptions (Kyzliar /Chris Reeve etc)

One of these was posted in this thread a while back.
Just received my new favourite HH.

Zu Bladeworx Australia
Splinter
1 of 17 made
Machined from one piece of A2 drill rod
12" blade
7" handle

the Elishewitz/Sibert collab knives were interesting, and i quite likes Shane's survival bowie.
taskmaster, the zu blades are interesting, but i would prefer a more "practical" size or profile.

But the Elishewitz is very expensive, 2645$, i think for the damascus and for the famous name of the maker.
He had come out on Arizona Custom the previous friday, today is already "Sale pending"! The Zu Bladeworx is nice, it is very similar to the ADO Marfione small

Guys, I need your help.. I'm in negotiation for this gem.. Al Mar SF-10 Commemorative Edition. In your opinion, what is its right value? No box or papers unfortunately 😔

"Practical"........what's not practical about 12" of double edged beauty.
I reckon I can pierce a hole in the very fabric of space/time with this baby. To each his own I say.

yeah , i hear you taskmaster.
jackal,i have that same model Al Mar [it's not for sale].seems to be priced around 6 to $800

These are the HH knives i make, inspired by Jimmy Lile's Sly.
steel is 8mm thick Bohler K110 [like D2],hardened to 59/60 HRC.
blade length is 9.5in,oal is 14.4in.
handle is 304 SS tube with 6061 Al buttcap.
the leatherwork was interesting, was fun making the mounts for the eze lap diamond sharpeners.

the HH knives really kicked my butt, milling, turning, threading on the lathe, leatherwork, fun times.and Bohler K110 is tough.
these are my 1st lugged guards, man that's another story too [i'm sure you can tell at this point,i'm no machinist].
these 2 are "custom" sizes
large is 15.5 oal with a 10.4 in blade.
small is 13.5 in oal with a 8.4 in blade.
both have 8mm thick Bohler K110 blades, hardened to 59/60 HRC [i "drew the temper"on the spine and tangs as well],hand rubbed.
lugged guards are 3Cr12.
handles are 303 ss [i wanted a "lip"at the end to stop the cord] with 6061 Al buttcaps [i did not make the caps, got these from Newt Martin].
handles are wrapped in a flame resistant cord.wrapping was fun too.all 1000 times.
i made the sheaths [i'm not great at this but the sheaths are functional],the Eze Lap diamond sharpeners set if off nicely.
i turned a "groove" at the butt end of the handle for the o ring to nest into, just looks neater,i feel,i did this on the 1st 2 as well.
pics are ok too.
thanks for looking.

Wow!! Beautiful!! Compliments Harm! They look really well made, excellent blade lengths, in my opinion.. A great tribute to Lile.. Excellent choice of steel similar to D2. Only a doubt, the butt cap is not too big? Not in diameter, but in the thickness. It does not take away useful space inside the handle?
