THE Hollow Handle Knife Thread

I got the Robson X46, 5", today.

This HH knife is a beast. I really don't know how a person could break this thing.

Extremely sharp out of the box, almost scary sharp.

It does not have a screw on tail, but the O-rings are very tight. I'm not worried about it coming off accidentally.

It's a little bit smaller than a CRK Mountaineer 2 and larger than a Mountaineer 1.

The overall design is very good. This is the one-piece for the 21st century, better in many ways than the CRKs were.

The handle is the biggest improvement. It isn't round and knurled. It is very comfortable and secure.
The guard is a welcome addition, something the CRKs didn't have.
The Ceracoat should be tougher than the Guncoat CRK used, that stuff wore off pretty quickly.

I wanted to get a Martin Caiman for a smaller HH. However, Martins customer service, along with some disappointing details on my MCE2 made me decide against it.
So far, the fit, finish, and excecution on the RPW makes me very happy. I don't see any shortcuts on this knife at all.

The knife comes with a Spec-ops sheath. I would have preferred a kydex sheath, but I like lightweight, minimal blade coverings. The Spec-ops sheath is a good unit though, certainly not junk.

I haven't had a chance to stuff the handle yet so I'm not sure what it will hold.

This a very unique knife. There is nothing else made like it. it is a definite improvement on the old CRK's.

Congrats on the new knife, bearcut! Looking forward to hearing more about it, and seeing some pics!

Followed me home from a Gun & Knife Show this morning....I FINALLY own a Randall!!!!!!!!

It's got some marks from use, she's not a "safe queen", with I actually prefer, now I won't sweat using it. :)

Great knife, Bear Claw! Congrats!

Some nice knives acquired by the members here lately....:)

Congrats bearcut! I've always liked the looks of this knife, but haven't heard much about it. I like the 5" blade and steel buttcap. What is the purpose of the hump on the blade?

I FINALLY own a Randall!!!!!!!!

Congrats Bear Claw! Great looking Randall knife and rough back Johnson sheath. Is there a compass in the buttcap? It appears to be an early 80s knife due to the combination of the knurled handle and straight line buttcap. Vice nice indeed!

No compass, wasn't sure if should hsve one or not. Been trying all day to find an age, what little I read had me thinking 80's, but wasn't sure.

Compasses have always been optional, so your knife probably didn't have one originally. Randall changed compasses a few times over the years. Your knife would have had a compass like third one in the photo below, however it could have had a black dial instead of white - they looked identical except for color. Your knife is right at the age of a compass change that took place in the early 80s. Around 1983, Randall changed to the white dial because it was easier to read. Both compasses were made by Marbles in Michigan.

Thats a sweet Randall Bear, have you seen the replacement threaded end caps? There a several with a lanyard loop, or a pointed end, just a few different types.

Nope, are they on the Randall site? Wouldn't mind one with a lanyard loop.

Although the one on here, has some "character" with a few dimples where someone used it to pound something.

I haven't seen them on Randalls site but I have on eBay, from mild to wild along with milled steel staffs that screw into the handle as well.

Bear Claw,
I was going to tell you after you put your deposit down on the Martin; try not to spend too much on hh's before you get the Martin!

That's one thing I've noticed about myself, when I order a knife and have to wait any length of time for it, I end up spending a lot on similar knives before what I ordered arrives!

Congrats on your Randall.

LOL, I know the feeling, this purchase was as much because it was a Randall, as it did being an HH. I recently sold a pistol, for the purpose of looking to buy a Randall at this show, and actually was leaning more towards a Model 14. Main reason I choose this one, was that out of the dozen or so the dealer had, this was the only one that had been used. So it was a little cheaper, and I want to use one, and not sure I could bring myself to use a mint one.
