THE Hollow Handle Knife Thread

OK. Not as nice as others here, for sure, but my first wrap. Fishing line is wrapped underneath the cord.

Not sure why I didn't bring the wrap all the way to the end of the handle

Anyway....

I agree, but unfortunately, the thread has grown so large that a lot of the information is now too hard to find. HH knives are too multifaceted for just one dedicated thread. This topic needs a few sub-forums. General discussion, construction/design, handle contents, photo gallery are some ideas.

I elect Sam to be our lobbyist. :)

My special thanks belong also to Cricketdave, who posted this link in general forum.I do not own (yet) any HH blade,as i always prefered full flat tang on all my knives, but i realy like Martins Knives and all similar high quality HH knives...Maybe one day will come and i will be able to afford some really premium HH blade in style of Lile design...(love the all the blades Cricketdave posted)

There's some idiot in YouTube named Chris from"preparedmind101" bashing all hollow handle knives, saying all new hollow and old hollow handle knives can piss off, this dude just has that face that you just wanna bash in, there's nothing he can do about his face either but other than that here is a guy who guys in his back yard pretending he's in the woods and some big survival expert. .. Makes me laugh so hard how he talks this and that about survival, I don't know how many of us that actually served time in the military and live everyday life like these guys talk about survival but his worst survival situation is our daily life just makes me laugh. ... how do these morons even have YouTube channels at all ????? Seriously, this guy talks about what equipment is better than this equipment and why he hates this knife sheath or this sleeping bag, seriously?? Who's with me on this topic? Hey Chris from YouTube try going into the"woods" not your back yard and bring everything you have for survival, he would be crying for his mom in 8 hours

I must respectfully disagree, in that you are wrong on most counts. I can only use his own words against you and they are all on video...

#1. He has never EVER claimed to be a survival expert...in fact, he often states he's not...to the tune of about every other / third video. In fact, he's recently teamed up with Mantis Outdoors because he is Chris' "go-to" guy for that type of information.
#2. He's only ever claimed to be a "gear reviewer" - and that his reviews are designed for "being prepared." The question is "prepared for what?" and many of us who love the woods, think in terms of surviving some major societal catastrophe and 'retreating' to those woods. Not him, he has more "urban survival" related gear videos than woods survival....but professes a an unhealthy love for huge bladed knives.
#3. Yes, he's got a stand of trees in his back yard so he can baton logs, etc. So? He's showing what the gear can and can't do...and what we as knife users/outdoors-men, will "likely" do with our gear [and we cannot deny that we do it either].
#4. He gets tons of gear to beat the crap out of. Why? Because he says "this is what I like/dislike and he's honest about it?
#5. Historically speaking, mass produced hollow handle knives DID/DO suck. Why? Because all too often, the blade and handle are/were separate pieces of production and only joined by crappy threaded 1/4" tangs or cheap and cheesy rolled pins. I've had a few....and they DID suck. The hilt is usually the failure point in the cheap blades. Now as it comes to the expensive custom jobs made from one-piece of material? I don't know. But are you willing to spend upwards of a $Grand$ to beat the crap out of it, to have it snap on you? I think not.

Now....I'm with you in that he seems to be a bit of a blowhard and yes, I can see disliking his overall attitude....but he has the ears of several major manufacturers because in his testing, he finds in some designs, flaws that need redesigning [see Schrade SCAXE2]. So what if he has an attitude we can't digest? He's doing us a service by beating the crap out of gear so we know what works and doesn't.

I completely understand everything you said, some things, yes, make sense. .. some things.... sounds like you wanna blow the guy, if that's the case just ask guy I'm sure he goes both ways, but my point is, there's some ugly ass douch bag in YouTube with absolutely absolute no military experience, no real life scenarios telling us what's good and not good! Ill tell you something, I had my hollow handle buckmaster 184 on my first your to Iraq in 2002 ok and I brought that knife with me EVERY SINGLE TIME I went back and I actually used my knife until I left there in 2008 and more of my brothers bought them just because they loved mine so much, mind you these people respect blades over the more than guns, Jay the factor was intimidating enough. .. I won't get into what I did in the military its not important in this conversation but my knife that I lived with day in and day out got me threw some times where I was alone and so glad I had that with me I have a deep respect for hollow handle knives and all you guys out there playing weekend warrior in your backyards who got something to say about everything, just like this pussy Chris from YouTube, Come and write something when you've had a real world experience, and I'm not talking about you having to open your wife's peanut butter jar seal lids like most of the idiots watching this morons videos Just because he's flooding YouTube with useless shit and making an ass off himself. Seriously in a real world scenario, a knife, any knife is a survival knife, anything you have is a survival item, who gives two shits if 1095 steel is better than 440c stainless, who gives a shit, if your like some of us on this site your greatful to have any piece of steel in your hand. ..... Damn yuppies worried about getting the best if the best and don't even know why, or how to use it, I'm telling you right now, he's a complete dough bag on YouTube trying to get paid to be adouch bag pretending he's in the woods while police sirens are going off in the background. ..p.s. He should wear more eye make up

Well aren't you special? I bet that Congressional Medal of Honor looks good on your supposed uniform too....

I find your 12 year old commentary offensive and quite frankly, you sound like that jealous girlfriend who hates everything she can't do or have. in fact, I don't see you promoting any product idea, a channel with meaningful commentary or even remotely contributing anything more than a jealous tirade.

Hater's gonna' hate, right? perhaps you should lay off the caffeine and Monster drinks before bedtime.

EDIT. get to use my 'blocked' button for the first time. Awesome.

No need to get to upset about some guy on youtube, I've got a channel on there too and do goofy stuff. I do have a few of the better customs and have used them, lots of chopping some battoning and using the saw. I wasn't worried about breaking them, I didn't buy them to let them sit in the safe. My time in the Army was a long time ago, I certainly would not have carried anything with a saw back though. I carried a Gerber Mk2 it was very handy and useful. As for gear, well I've got stuff from the original alice gear the Army gave me to modern molle stuff thats pretty amazing. To each their own.

No I don't think so, Druid seems to think the guys youtube channel is interesting, ok cool. No need to get upset about it. Its the internet not one thing that happens on here is serious enough to get upset over. I've done plenty of silly crap myself.

I'm nIt mad Dave, I'm just starting my opinion, weekend warriors who go in their back yard for 20 minutes sms get scared when they hear a squirrel shouldn't be telling us their opinion in what we should spend our money on, I think we are skilled enough to figure it out on our own... . This is a hollow handle forum
