Thats is a interesting well thought out theory, but I would have to disagree. I would think holding the axe in a reverse grip for fighting would eliminate its best advantage. Longer weapons, like axes and swords gain there advantage by there length. Reverse grip is a little more up and personal. It would seem to me anyway by turning it around you would be defeating a purpose. Thats just me anyway, ive studied the picture, and to be honest, im kinda drawing a blank as to why it shaped that way, maybe to develop more velocity on a downward swing allowing the head of the axe more time travel time in hitting its target. Kinda reverse logic of the design of the BK4. Which honestly I have a hard time understanding as well, Ethan and I have had a couple of great discussions about that.
WW, you may of mentioned it and I didn't see it. But when you talked to the maker did he give his reasoning? Its would be interesting to understand the thinking that went into it. They are definitely some cool looking axes.
Yes, He said a customer wanted them that way, they were custom made for a customer, and he even tried to talk him out of it at first, but thats what he really wanted so he made them LOL
He said he likes how they looked but they are a PITA so he doesnt make the design anymore. He does have a similar version on his website, im not sure if it was an extra he made at the same time or what though.
They do look neat, but i can see the handle shape making it harder to use in some ways. So im thinking of maybe modding it. First ill test it out of course, but if it doesnt throw well the way it is ill likely try and grind the bent portion off. It would make the handle a bit shorter, but may improve the function when thrown.
Really i prefer to use knives when chopping wood and stuff. The only thing i really use hawks for is throwing and destroying stuff. I treat knives as tools, but hawks as toys LOL
