I guess nobody liked the wood intarsia pictures. I thought they were awesome personally.... but i guess ill cry in the corner alone :p :D

Congrats on the kill MM!!

Glad you had a good time and welcome back Warrior!

Too cold around here for me to even WANT to be in the woods... Ill be glad when i get back to the south. My father told me today was 80° at his house and he was blowing the AC. What a tease.

I thought they were totally cool, showed them to my family, and packed up the car as we were leaving my folks for the 2hr. drive home. Did five loads of laundry at my parents house; our washing machine broke a couple weeks ago and I'm waiting for some other sh...tuff before I can buy a new one. I don't think ours is repairable for any kind of reasonable cost. It's a front loader and the drum was banging around and is dented up. New drum is half the price of a new machine, and this one is 10 years old. I hate stuff that breaks like that...I have a hard time letting go of something that SHOULD be repairable and have some life left in it. Plus I just don't feel like spending the cash to buy a new washer AND dryer (they're stacked right now) as the dryer's been eating a lot of stuff over the past coupla years (catches zippers and stuff between the drum and the frame - gets ugly pretty fast) and ain't worth repairing, either. Nothing like doing family laundry at the laundromat .

Thanks man.

The stove was awesome. Didn't even remotely need blankets. As a matter of fact, we had to crack the window open, to cool down a bit, haha. The snow was great. I wanted to stay so damn bad.
Makes you really love work doesn't it?

I'm sitting here trying to decide go to blade show next year or go on a cruise... I only have a finite amount of time off work and I am already taking some (before I'm supposed to be able to by 3 months) to go to the auto show. However I have been to 29 of the last 32 auto shows in Chicago.

Sure sure butter me up now :D

-snark

I know its not knife related... I just personally love wood. SO mixing different natural woods and making a picture out of it appeals to me.

I look at some wood and want to buy it... Just to hang it up as is. Like buckeye burl for instance. Id love a HUGE slab of that stuff hung on the walls.

One day i want to build a table top with LOTS of different types of exotic wood... Maybe engrave or wood burn the names of each on the edges or something. Would be BEAUTIFUL and a great conversation piece with like minded individuals.... Would also work for letting people look at to choose which wood handles they want on a knife.
I was on my phone and now I'm on a computer... That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it!

I think it would be awesome to get some nice burl and just make a coffee table top out of it, or even a couple of end tables. But I don't have anywhere that would fit that decor (right now) so I just think, and dream.

Me too, Best wood work I've ever seen! And to just think, I used to think my Feather sticks were good. :(:D

HAHA... Dude your feather sticks are 100 times better than mine LOL... I always use too much pressure and end up cutting all my curls off :D

I really do like my fathers wood work though. He has sold a lot of it at art shows and stuff. I always like seeing what he creates. He can take nearly any picture and turn it into wood art. He doesnt buy the plans, even though there are many plans for sell. He just prints out any picture he likes and turns it into plans himself. He decides which woods to use and all. I think its very cool.

Im sure he has a lot to do with why i like wood so much LOL

"Bitch-gloss", my ass, son. Spend 40 years in Northern WI winters and you'll learn to appreciate chapstick. Having your face fray around the edges and your lips peel off in painful bloody strips ain't much fun.

So if y'all are callin me a "bitch" or "feminized"... heh. Come up North with me for six months of my choosing. We'll see who's beggin' for some Carmex or Burt's Bees. :D

On the other hand, wannabe-biker sissies with palm-lotion and knuckle-balm... that's news to me.

Also, some Beckerhead (whom I forget at the moment) a couple months ago suggested using chapstick as a food-safe "coating" on plain carbon knives to prevent undue corrosion, and I subsequently discovered that it works pretty well for that, too.

I do draw the line at the stuff with sparkles in it, though. :p

In other news...

Never been real big on the winter holidays myself. Thanksgiving has always been my favorite, because it has the least "commerical" feel and the most "let's just get together and celebrate the harvest" kinda thing to it. Y'know, like a Beckerhead Gathering. Where everybody just chips in together and it's a blast.

Sadly, all that changes a bit when you become a "grown-up" and start actually hosting the Turkey-Day festivities (whether you wanted to or not). Suddenly, everyone coming over to your house has requests for their traditional home-cooked favorites, and of course they're only gonna bring a crappy store-bought pie in a box or a six pack of warm mediocre beer. Meanwhile, you and your wife are working your behinds off and spending scads of money so these rascals can come have a glorious feast in your home once a frickin' year... and you never see 'em or hear from 'em the other 364 days. The wife is stressed as hell for three weeks in advance and after, and the whole time, you're sitting there going "Got-dang, this was a lot more enjoyable when I was a kid and didn't realize how much work went into it".

Wow... sorry guys and gals, I got a little snarky there. :o I do still love Thanksgiving very much. Just sometimes I wonder... damn... ain't it supposed to be fun?

I always use Blistex, and I think I went through three of them during the last 9-week trip to the desert (El Paso/Las Cruces). Doesn't matter if it's dry, cold air of the northern climes or hot, dry air in the desert southwest...it seriously tears up your lips.

And as far as Thanksgiving, for me anyway, I love cooking just as much as I love eating! You all have probably noticed that I do post a lot of photos of food I've cooked... I've often felt that my younger brother (a pediatrician) and I (an Electrical Engineer) have wasted our talents and should be restauranteurs or chefs. Ever since I retired from the Army in 2005, we've alternated Thanksgiving between our houses since we were both in Texas and the rest of the family was still in Missouri. Either place, we both shared the cooking duties and the kitchen was always the center of the social activities. He just moved up to Kansas City this past summer, so we won't be doing it every year as in the past. It'll be a quiet Thanksgiving at home this year with just me, my wife and the two kids. I'll probably cook enough food for a dozen people though... :D

I know that feeling bud!! We use to do all our laundry at the laundromat, hated it.

Washers are a PITA!! Ours is only 3 years old or so and was NOT a cheap one... But recently it hasnt been going on to the wash cycle after the fill cycle on its own.. We have to stop it, open it up and hand turn the agitator thingy a few times until we here it click, then close it up and try again. Sometimes it takes several tries to get the wash cycle to kick back on.

We are sure it will die soon... We are just hoping it last until july/august when we PLAN to move. If it makes it that long we will be happy. We dont plan to take the washer or dryer or refrigerator either for that matter when we leave. Fridge is only a few years old too and still works great... But we are trying to limit what all we take with us.

YUMMMMMM.

I havent had a blizzard in FOREVER. I need to fix that!!

But id be getting those chicken strips and gravy with mine. Love those chicken strips with that gravy!!

That's funny because I decided to get the "classic" chicken strip basket. Not sure what the difference is, still seem like the same tiny, sorry, excuse for chicken strips they've been serving for a while now. Maybe I'm mistaken but I could swear those things had decent sized strips in them when they first came out.

He should try making knife scales, I'll bet he could do great at that.

And I should my friend the feather sticks, and he did it better than most I've seen, on his first try! I guess some people just have the "talent"? I know I SUCKED when I started. :o

Ugh, maybe school, maybe not. We're getting rain, and it's about 34 degrees. I don't think it's going to get any colder, but we're calling for snow tomorrow, so they may cancel the day cause of what's coming in. I hope so, because I can still get another buck (this one was so small that it doesn't even count) and I'm getting addicted to this new concept called "hunting" :D

Just returned from the cabin. Got my stove installed. Worked freakin' excellent. Started snowing just as we were leaving, of course. It was a pretty ride home though, with the snow sticking to all the trees.
I bet that little cabin is nice and cozy now.

Hey WW, Dairy Queen's blizard of the month is Reeses PB cup. Think I might go grab me one and a couple flamethrower burgers.
Man, that does sound good now...

Jerry, I still say that stove is pretty sweet, I'll need to get one when they are actually being sold!
Thank you kindly, Cbear! There may be a few more sometime before too long, but that's probably the extent of what I'll say given my current color. :foot:

I was having sex regularly at 14. And trying to talk every girl into it within 100 yards of me.

I was, what i now fear.

Bahaha you and me both brother. I did end up marrying one of them tho ;)

And I agree with GSOM, giving them the knowledge they need to make smart decisions in life is what we need to do as parents.

A combination of both is exactly what I'll be using ;)

Awesome looking wood sculptures too

A couple pieces of intarsia my father finished up. There is no paint, its all the natural colors from the wood with only a clear coat varnish when its finished. Each piece is cutout separately and then hand sanded. He has been doing this for going on 20 years. I made a trout as a kid and it sold as well. Its a LOT of work.

He is going to do my Worldwood logo for me!!

Really good looking woodwork. I would'a replied earlier, but I was still working my way through 6 pages of snark to get here.

I have been planning this out since the day i found out i was having a daughter. I have been told your kids will be 3 times as bad, and 3 times as good at getting away with stuff then you were at their age... I'll be ready.

Famous last words, WW. You will NEVER be ready because just when you think you are, you'll get suckered in by something you never saw coming.

I guess nobody liked the wood intarsia pictures. I thought they were awesome personally.... but i guess ill cry in the corner alone :p :D

Wah, Wah, Wah. :D

Maybe it'll die 2 days before you leave and you can strip the tub out to make a fire pit with. :D

The midnight forum crash is getting old :(

The chicken strips are my favorite thing there, they use to be decent size for sure. I hope they didnt make em smaller.

I keep trying to talk him into making me a set... Eventually ill persuade him into it LOL

JT - I hear ya brother. Thanksgiving was a lot more fun when I was a kid. My wife asked me to help her "plan the menu". So I said - Uh I don't know. Turkey, stuffing and some kinda dessert. - Not only did she not appreciate my heartfelt contribution she was pretty upset with me. Jeez women! :D

Just got back to my boss's yard with the semi and my pickup won't start!!! I guess leaving the dome lights on for over 5 hours in 10° weather will do that.

I like all the holidays that bring my family together. I would have to agree that I do enjoy Thanksgiving the most.

Dubz, it looks like you are really getting that cabin set up the way you want it. It looks like a nice place to get away.

Thanks man. We still have a ways to go, but it sure has been fun getting there.

I'm sure I'm a little late to the party, but just noticed tradewater is a mod now. Congrats man, good to see.

It seems somebody is trying to gift me snow today. Please take it back or I'll regift it further south!

Thanks Richard!

heres to a day of napping! and spending time with family!
