The Inkosi Appreciation Thread

So I did end up trying the Small Inkosi, in Insingo Micarta flavor. I liked it quite a bit, but moved it on nonetheless - thinking I might like to try it in tanto.

The Inkosi really is the best knife ever.
I am a new convert but completely agree. I am 57 and had a knife in my pocket everyday for 47 of those years and I’ll say the Large Inkosi Insingo is the best of them. Now with that said Ill still never get rid of my Mnandi!

I have a question for my fellow large Inkosi carriers.

Anyone ever had the stop pin come loose? I just pulled my knife out of my pocket to find the stop pin pushed most of the way thru with the screw holding by just 1 thread. This knife has seen daily use for 3 weeks and this was a complete suprise. I know it wasnt like this this morning at 0500 when I put it in my pocket.
I guess there is a chance I just didn’t tighten it when I put it into service after the initial clean / lube. Just seems weird as there is no torgue on the pin what would make it or the screw turn?

That’s wild. I’ve beat the snot out of my Inkosi’s and haven’t had that happen.

On my inkosis, the fitment between the stop pin and show scale is so tight, you wouldn't be able to dislodge it even if you unscrewed it on purpose. Stop pin screws come loose on my 31s occasionally without thread locker. I think it's the vibration caused by the blade tang engaging the stop pin upon deployment.

So Ive carried and used the Large Inkosi Insingo at work and home for a couple days shy of a month. I think thats enough time and use to form a good opinion of this tool.
I am pretty sure this is my favorite working knife of all times. Ive owned lots and lots of work knives and they all came out of the pocket at home and on the weekends but not this one. While its a large knife, its not threatening to the sheep so Im not timid about its use in public. It’s also very comfortable and nimble in the hand. A lot of knives this size are just brutes to power thru tasks but the combo of size, handle and blade shape make this just a delight to use.

All in all The Large Inkosi Insingo is a real winner of a true tool knife with enough style and class to leave the job site for the rest of the world.

Ok so It looks like the knife does have a slight flaw? Tightened all body screws the other day when the stop pin screw backed out. I am sure it wasn’t like this at 0500 when I slipped it into my pocket……. Guess Ill tear it down this weekend and locktite all the screws.
This is the first knife I have ever owned with self removing screws!

That’s so bizarre. I have never had this happen on any of my inkosis. Just tighten them down and go until the next cleaning.

This is I think my 12th? CRK and I’ve never had a screw come loose. I am gonna take it down and clean and re assemble it again. Im almost tempted to not locktite it just to see if it happens again. If it happens again I am gonna start wondering if its somehow out of spec…Or Ill just locktite it and move on.

I have had a pivot loosen on a 21, and the stop pin screw on an Inkosi; but never a standoff screw. Not sure how that could happen as that area isn't subject to much force when opening/closing.

The CRK purple locktite (a LIGHT amount - or a VERY LIGHT amount of blue) for the aforementioned and never an issue again. The 21 somewhat surprised me, as 21's never came with the CRK locktite (to the best of my knowledge) - I believe that the titanium and the screw is supposed to slightly gall to keep them snug.

Kettleman Kettleman

A few years back I carried my small Inkosi for a day or two and never noticed a screw came out…not until I posted on the forum and someone pointed it out to me in a follow up post! (HA!) (and D-uh!)

Ever have one of those moments where you look down and think to yourself, “Man, why is it that I need x-# of knives at home when I can put this guy into my pocket?”

I’ve been feeling like that all day.

Ok here she is after breaking down, degreasing every part and putting a tiny dab of locktite on every screw.

I had a wow moment when I got it reassembled and tuned. It is with out a doubt as smooth as any Sebenza Ive ever handled and probably more so than most! This really has become my favorite knife of all times.

The Inkosi - You have to love those big washers for their smoothness and the ease of it's take down, reassembly, and tuning !

Thats coming from a long time 21 devotee.

I was able to secure a blade regrind spot with Razor Edge Knives (REK). Josh sent my Insingo blade and scales out for DLC and added his Ti hardware & thumb studs. I think the revised blade shape is fantastic. J2H supplied the backspacer. Josh is a master craftsman — he certainly made this Inkosi unique…
